Timed Climate & Manual Heat
Hi All,
Haven't yet posted in the My Discovery section yet, but will when i get some decent pictures etc. Got a 2010 D4 purchased through the forum, but will give you all the low down when i get around to it!
Hoping someone can clarify if i am doing something wrong or have an issue with the FBH or Timed Climate etc.
I tried to use the timed climate function a couple of mornings ago. Im away with work so i was expecting to come out of my hotel to a warm car, but it wasn't warm.
I set the timed climate for 06:15. Came out to the car at about 06:35 and nothing seemed to have happened. Got inside and checked everything. No error messages etc. I checked the timed climate time and was still set. Car had 1/2 tank of fuel, no error messages showing, and outside temp was reading 3 degrees. As it hadn't worked, i thought i would try the manual heat button. So turned on the Nav (Without the ignition on) and operated manual heat button. Button showed it was pressed, but nothing seemed to happen. Left it for a minute without anything changing or any sounds from the car. Pressed the Vent button and almost straight away, the vents started blowing.
I then had to get to work, so started and drove to work. Got there, and thought i would just try the manual heat again, and it then operated the blowers straight away, but wondering if it was just using the warm coolant rather than the FBH? Temp outside would only be 3-4 degrees. I should have checked the FBH to see if it was hot, but was in a rush so didn't.
Tonight again, i tried the manual heat before i set off (Car was cold) Button pressed, nothing happened. Outside temp reading 12 degrees. I got back to my hotel and popped the bonnet and the FBH exhaust was cold, but the coolant block thing was warm, with hot engine coolant flowing through i presume.
So any ideas. Am i doing something wrong etc?
Im in Grimsby if anyone is local that knows what they are doing?

Sounds like your FBH may be locked out and needs a reset. Search on here, I think theres a reset process you can do, but not 100% as never had the issue myself. No doubt someone will be along with more helpful in a moment LRs are a fond memory, apart from the maintenance.

Great, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. A search suggests it might be the issue.
It suggests a possible reset procedure by disconnecting a wire on the FBH. I assume its OK to do this with the battery connected?
I will give this a go. If not successful, i will need to either find someone who can unlock it for me, or buy the wires in the link and do it myself, although i guess it will take a while for the cables to come.
Can anyone around the Grimsby area do this for me, or recommend a garage etc? Failing that, i will have to wait until I'm home.
Thanks

The manual heat button on sat nav screen my 2013 HSE Lux, has never worked. The remote handset and the timers work perfectly.
I often use the car as a mobile office, and it is nice to have the manual heat to save running the engine so much. I use the remote handset to fire it, and get 20 minutes of warmth before it shuts down and I have to start the engine.

Yes, i think its ok. I haven't had any error messages and the car isn't struggling to start etc.
I haven't got my multimeter here with me to check. I can have a look using the hidden menu tomorrow, but not sure how accurate that is.
Whats the minimum it should be?

Also, is there any reason you have to use one of the OBD reader things if you make up the cable in the link above?
Can you not just make up a cable that goes into the back of the FBH into the correct pins, and have an RS232 connector on the other end which goes straight into the laptop assuming you wire the pins correctly?
Could potentially make one up here, as there is a Maplins and i could make a cable

I think the 1st thing to establish is whether the FBH is working.
If we get another cold spell you will hear it running when the engine is running if stood at the front of the car.
I can also smell mine when it fires

Ive never noticed it working since I've had the car. Should it be noticeable over the engine noise etc? I haven't seen any exhaust either despite using the car in frosty mornings etc.
Typical, tomorrow is forecast to be around 8 degrees!

If you listen for it you can hear it
You also tend to hear it shutting down when you turn the engine off

Update This Morning:
I pulled the fuse this morning, let it rest for a bit and stuck it back in. Started the engine to see if it fired the FBH, waited for a minute or so and nothing happened. Decided it hadn't worked and drove to work.
I arrive and as i walked past the front of the car, i could hear the noise i thought was the FBH, so popped the bonnet and the exhaust was hot and it was running, which i assume is the cool down phase. Outside temp was reading 7 degrees. .
So i know the FBH is now working. Hadn't noticed it before, and have never seen any exhaust and didn't this morning either, but its getting hot.
So under what conditions should the manual heat fire the FBH with a cold engine? And how long should i be waiting to hear the FBH fire up etc? Is it below 5 degrees that the timed climate should work if i set it?

Mine had a similar problem, albeit it would fire the fbh, but would shut down after 3-4 minutes. Have extended warranty and local stealers replaced the battery and a voltage regulator. All is now well except for a few wirrs and clicks if I press manual heat, but works fine on timed as mentioned before.

I was surprised mine fired up on timed and ran for nearly 25mins in total yesterday with an outside temp of 8.5C. First morning after getting it back, and it was garaged all night. Dash display read 8C. Didn't work on manual, first thing I tried.

Cheers for the update. I've replaced my battery recently but haven't tried the timed heat yet.
I've also got an IID tool now so will have a look at it with that as well
