Anyway it's green and has the LR part number. Hope it helps
Just got my car (D3 six speed) back from Bristol Transmissions - they used Ravenol ATF 6HP synthetic and they advised changing the fluid every 2 years to keep it all in good fettle. That's a long way from the 'sealed for life' twaddle peddled previously.

Currently sitting beside a rather pleasant swimming pool in Greece ogling the local avian species and drinking a cold beer - So looks like next week. Had a right balls-up getting the ATF, the Lifeguard 8 never materialised from Germany so went for a Febi Bilstein product that meets the LR spec for the 8 Speed box, but the first delivery was ATF for the 6 speed so that went back. This stuff is green so any colour change next year won't be down to me mixing the oils.
Also had to buy a new oil syringe as mine sprung a leak and Seally took a week to deliver. So, once home and the post holiday jobs are done the LR jobs will get some priority. All this of course has to be approved by the CinC home.FFRR Westminster TDV8

Eventually got round to it. Just waiting now for box to cool down for final level check.
The fluid was quite dark, not much sign of green, so I think it had worked quite hard. I got about 3.5 litres out and put just over 4 litres in at present, but won't know for certain until final check.
Robbie's guide makes the procedure very straight forward, so thanks for that, but getting at the drain plug was a bit of a game as the exhaust on my car is pretty much covering it and needed an 8mm Allen Key, bent variety, to remove it. There was no way a Hex socket and wobble would fit.
The plan was to fit new plugs, but Dan at Duckworths sent me the wrong plug!!!! I will be speaking to him for a refund. A new level plug will go in after the final check. These plugs have O rings which is why they recommend new ones I suspect. Anyway no leaks as yet!
The plan is to repeat in September which will mean the box has 75% new and newish fluid and 25% old fluid. So I should be good for a couple of years.
Lifeguard 8 just wasn't available anywhere except at a Main Dealer at £56 a litre, so I used Febi Bilstein No 39096, which is a Lifeguard 8 equivalent with LR 023288 stamped on the container. It comes in 3 bottle sizes, 1 litre - 39095, 5 litres - 39096 and 20 litres - 39097. It's also green. Also the IID tool makes temperature monitoring soooooo easy
So big thanks to Robbie for the info and GAP for the Tool. SWMBO doesn't know about that yet and I don't think she needs to.FFRR Westminster TDV8

Good effort the quantity you got out is about the same as me (3.7lt,) and it sounds like the old oil was similar to mine. Amazing that its considered good for 150k miles i didnt replace the plugs either and didnt get any leaks. Ive got just enough ZF8 for another go in October.D4 GS 12MY

Spoken to Dan at Duckworths and he is speaking to LR as the part he sent is considered the "correct" one and definitely is not.FFRR Westminster TDV8

I shall be doing mine in the next few weeks. 8 speed and will be using the Mannol oil I have on the shelf. Has anyone got any experience of these oil pumps?

The short answer is no, but I used a Sealey oil syringe and, while it worked OK, I could have done with a third hand. So this pump looks easier to use and that's important when you are under the car. As far as quality the Sealey was fine.FFRR Westminster TDV8

I'd like to say yes, but in truth no, havent noticed any difference. Of course only about 40% of the oil is changed on the first go so the bulk is still smelly black stuff.D4 GS 12MY

I was hoping for zero change, given the low milage and smooth shifts, but it did feel a little silkier after the oil change.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

Mine just ticked through 61k this morning, and a friend remarked on a recent run how smooth the gear change was,so I'm not expecting much....cheers"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool, than to speak out and remove all doubt" ?.....what rubbish...

No change here either, I was just relieved it was still changing gear after I had been messing with it!
However, the oil was definitely well passed its best but had not yet done any damage so I know it has paid dividends. FFRR Westminster TDV8
