Shredded cam belt - it's my lucky day
I have been a week trying to diagnose a clicking noise from my Discos engine
I decided today to check the cam belt which I had ruled out as it was changed at 109,000 by an independant garage and this is what I found
Gonna check the pulleys tomorrow in case there is a bearing gone causing the belt to run out of line
I am well happy

Just goes to show, almost ruled out because it was changed on time and in good faith and I'm guessing that a heavy handed mechanic damaged the belt fitting it. Very lucky indeed I'd say, buy a lottery ticket this week, you never know. Hope you keep everybody posted on whatever else you find doing the further investigation. Well done.

Don't know why it was only clicking on the right hand bank only, but it was starting to develop into two clicks which is explained by the two areas where the belt has split.
I had visions of replacing cam followers and possibly taking a head of and dropping the sump to check the con rod small ends as it was that type of noise, but I (ex plant mechanic) and two other mechanic mates didn't think the click was following the right rythm
Going to buy my lottery ticket today ðŸ‘😃Current:

Feel around all points of contact just in case there is a nick somewhere that has damaged the belt. Check inside the cover too.

Will do, it appears to be running against the lip on the right hand cam pulley but central on the others
Will do a closer inspection on everything though ðŸ‘Current:

Just goes to show you can't always be sure I guess. Your one lucky
Wonder if it were a dodgy belt, Chinese origin?

Pulled the belt off and there is no obvious burrs or nicks on the outside edges of the pulleys
Nothing appears wrong with the cam belt cover
The only fault I can find is a very slight movement in the 2 idlers - I don't know the make of these parts
I will put it back together tomorrow once I have the parts and speak to the garage that fitted themCurrent:
