Can I change the big ends on my 2.7 from underneath without taking the engine out? 56 plate Zermatt Silve

In theory it's possible and I have done it in other engines. However from my understanding, the TDV6 sufferers main bearing movement. It's this movement that blocks the oil feed to the bearings, causing failure. Changing the mains normally means the engine has to come out and be inverted. Again it is possible to change the main bearings in situ on some engine designs but it would be considered a bodge job. Freelander SE 2005 Auto.

Thank you Nodge; I appreciate your honest advice
The noise might not be the mains, so I'm going to service the engine, (changing all the belts and tensioners, and see if that cures the metallic rumble before I assume the worst. 56 plate Zermatt Silve
