engine lacking ooomph - What could it be?
OK, so for some considerable time, maybe 18 months or even more, I've felt that the disco is lacking in power.
I'm not talking EGR failure no power, but an overall lack of power compared to how I believe it should be.
I've put this down for a long time, just to my changing perception of the car.
So this lack of power is not at take off, not EGR and I don't believe is a turbo issue.
Fuel filter is fresh and Genuine, Air filter is fresh and clean.
There are no specific recurring faults other than my Alarm Sounder (unplugged) and lights circuit (LEDS)
It's not like it accelerates and then hits a dead spot and carries on, when you get to fourth/fifth/sixth gear, when you reach a hill, you definitely have to drop it down a gear or two in order to make it up. I'm sure I used to be able to accelerate up any hill when I first got the car.
now it appears that I can accelerate up to around 50 -60 up a steep hill, 4k revs but not enough power to keep accelerating and change to next gear.
There are no obvious fuel leaks and no specific dead spots as such, just what I'm perceiving to be a lack of power overall. This makes it interesting when towing the caravan as well, whereas before, I have accelerated up steep hills in the lakes with 3.5t large trailer on the back without tooo much problem.
Live values of injectors at idle (is that the best measure?) show

When did you last clean out the intercooler? Not only could it be clogged with mud externally, but it could also be blocked internally. ISTR that I once flushed my buddys D1 300tdi intercooler with something called Genklene (sp?) and it made a world of difference to the car.

Replaced intercooler and radiator last year. Only muddy water I've been through (other than normal road crud) was Salisbury in December but it was the same before then. Might benefit a little from cleaning but I don't think will be noticeable. Something for the weekend as well though. Bodsys Brake Bible

Maybe your perception of the car has come to expect too much?
I often find this in my work, which is supplying computer systems. We often get support calls saying "its getting slow, can you come and clear it out" When in fact, the user has got used to the system, and instinctively knows what to do to operate it, therefore is trying to make it go faster. The system is actually going at the same speed as when it was first installed, but the user has speeded up in their day to day use of it.
I think a drag race is called for..... Call Top Gear!!

I'm up for a D3/D4 drag race
I always think mine could do with a little more power, until I drive a standard one again My D3 Build Thread
