So.... Got the car back yesterday and she has tons more power and engine is very smooth and quiet
Just got the full report from the garage though....
The rear timing belt had not snapped as first thought, the tensioner for the belt had sheared off and was flapping about doing nothing The filter in the tank for the LPFP was completely choked with gunk and there were metal filings in the tank
So the mechanic reckons the HPFP is on it's way out...
By all accounts I have been very lucky, the front timing belt was being shredded and was ready snap very soon, the oil seal on the pump had gone too, but when I looked at it there was no cracks on the oil pump casing itself.
They have replaced the back belt and tensioner, front belt tensioners and idler pulleys, oil pump and casing and put in a new camshaft drive gear too as the one that came out had quite worn teeth, dropped the tank and cleaned everything out, tested and cleaned out the LPFP and puteverything back together...
Hopefully she will run long enough to make enough money to replace the HPFP now before she dies again...

How much did that lot cost?
Cheaper than the front belt going though

No idea of the cost yet as I have a 90 day account with them so the bill will not be in until the end of the month but I am already dreading it.... think I may have to sacrifice one of my other LRs to pay for the repairs of this one...
Forgot to say no warning lights or bongs now so the suspension fault appears to have been caused by the low fuel pressure as Mikey said The difference between genius and stupidity is; genius has its limits...

It's not over yet. If the HPFP is damaged then everything downstream will be damaged, including all the rails and injectors. It is the microscopic bits of metal that do the expensive damage.
A petrol mis-fuel at some point in its life would be my best guess. Perhaps the previous owner did the deed and could not face the traumatic bill to replace everything and sold the vehicle on?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
