Tensionor FUBARed?
Couple of times today there has been a bit of a drive belt squeak when starting off, first time just to back out if a parking space (200 miles ago), then for about 50m after pulling out of a petrol station (100 miles ago). It's now screaming like a banshee and sound coming from the front like a bag of spanners in the washing machine.
Bearing in mind my lack of techie skills, is this the tensioner gone or going imminently? Anyone had this replace c/o Warranty Direct. Going to call out the RAC tomorrow, no way I want to drive it any further.
Thoughts oh wise ones?

Perhaps you did capture a banshee on your adventure who at that very time was carrying a bag of spanners.

Actually got to destination, car could well be heading to Frank Ogg on the back of a yellow taxi. Hopefully covered by WD.

Just started the old girl & moved her to unload all the stuff in there. She squeaked a little and rattle was like someone had bunged a towel in the spanner bag, lot less but still there. I'm assuming one that the difference in squeak & rattle is due to the engine being stone cold cf last night when it was nice & well warmed up.
Just about to call the RAC, mainly to see if it's safe to drive. What's the consequence if the tensioner fails entirely? Just loose alternator power & PAS or more dramatic? Booked in to Frank Ogg in Elgin for a little TLC.

The failure mode is usually relatively benign but I have also seen broken tensioners break-off and cause damage to anything within range.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

If you have breakdown assistance and are not confident assessing tensioners and other aux pulleys yourself then that makes a lot of sense. But if needs must it would probably be ok.

It was fine until mid afternoon yesterday, and really bad at 8pm when I got to my destination. No hint of anything wrong at all up until that point. At least it didn't let go half way up here, just wanted to get home & flop.
Robbie, erring on the side of caution. I'm at home, it's nice and warm here so can wait all day for the RAC (should be here in an hour or so). I've got the full monty package with them so no problem them getting it to the local dealer.
