In a nut shell........ Cruise Control isn't working.....have established the clockspring and the switch pack work fine, by checking with Faultmate and swapping out for known working Clockspring & Steering Wheel.......
Possible related fault codes:
P0501 - Vehicle speed sensor A range/performance (which one is 'sensor A'?)
Also cannot change from high to low or vice versa whilst on the move (if speed to high I get the normal message telling me to slow down). Changes fine when stationary though.....
Possible related fault codes (these are only logged if range change is attempted on the move, clear codes and change range while stationary = no faults):
P183A - Range change mechanism failure
P2711 - Unexpected mechanical gear disengagement
Posted both faults together as I wondered if it was all to do with the wheel speed sensor??

Daft question Clive, but it know your other D3 was a manual. You are shifting to neutral for the range change then back into drive? Not trying to teach you to such eggs here fella. I'm sorry it's giving you a problem, I am embarrassed Another silly question but would a hard reset make any difference?

Yep, defo going into neutral - get a normal error message of 'select neutral for range change' if I don't.
Tried a hard reset and no different

I'm thinking that the vehicle speed sensor is the speed sensor on the transfer box...... Where is this on the transfer box?

Anybody got any ideas?? I'm guessing it's not exactly a common issue.......

Wheel speed sensors can cause issues such as the transfer box, cruise control etc, but usually the gearbox is the first to notice.
Have you compared the wheel speed data whilst driving in a straight line (ie so all wheels should be doing the same speed).
I wouldn't change big components before establishing if this is a sensor or CAN BUS issue.
Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
All wheel speed sensors are in sync with each other and also match the speed on the speedometer.
Back to the drawing board?

Hopefully just a different part of the drawing board, your efforts are helping.
From your symptoms my next thought is the hall effect sensor on the transfer box motor. As you have changed the transfer case control module I would be thinking the sensor itself, the wiring or perhaps corroded contacts. I would be checking the ground and the reference voltage too.
Not sure if this matches the fault code though and I don't have my manuals to hand, so I hope someone else can comment, confirm or deny. From memory I really did think the P0501 was actual wheel speed, but I am doubting myself now. Any ABS fault codes and what code reader are you using?
Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Before I go and mess with the wrong connector/ sensor, which one is the hall effect sensor on the transfer box motor? Thanks
Using MSV2
ABS DTC's:
U0100 = Lost communication with engine control module/powertrain control module ‘A’
U0401 = Invalid data received from engine control module/powertrain control module
U0403 = Invalid data received from transfer case control module
In addition to the previous Engine Management codes posted previously (P0501 = Vehicle speed sensor A range/performance) I also have:
P000E (not seen this one before) = Fuel volume regulator control exceeded learning limit
P2290 (I get this after the Xmas tree lights after about 2 hours of driving, engine off and restart gets me going again every time) = Injector control pressure too low
Thanks for your help Robbie

Hall Signal A is Green/Red on pin 6 at the transfer box motor end as per:
I am still wondering about the wheel speed sensors and the output shaft sensor too.
Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
Not had chance to check the wiring yet, I'm assuming I can do a simple continuity check from the TCCM to the Transfer box itself while I'm at it? Was think a spade connector onto the TCCM plugs and extend the wiring down to under the car and check with mulit meter??
Also been digigng around on fault codes, I have a pdf "A brief guide to the new diagnostic standards"......'JLR have adpoted a new standard (ISO14229) for ODB Diagnostic Trouble Codes', though I don't know which MY this was implemented, presumably after MY08?
Anyway..... the description of fault P0501 "Vehicle speed sensor A range/performance" matches the new codes P050162 & P050164 on the pdf list........P050000 is listed as 'Vehicle Speed Sensor A' and the possible causes of this is listed as 'Vehicle speed invalid signal over CAN' and the suggested Action - ' Check for wheel Speed sensor DTCs. Investigate and repair codes in other CAN modules. Clear the codes and retest'.
While it suggests Wheel Speed sensors as you suggested Robbie (which appear to be functioning OK), it also ties in with a CAN Bus issue.....

CANBUS issues would give you a much bigger headache than just the CC not working My D3 Build Thread
Well that's something then
here's my list of issues:
1) Limp mode and full xmas tree lights after about 2 hours of driving.
2) Electronic Rear Diff not functioning, unable to reflash or check fault codes on same
3) Range Change on the move not possible - when stationary no probs
4) Cruise Control Not Working
5) Rear PDC non-functioning, all 4 sensors changed, but think one of the replacements may be faulty as they were 2nd hand
Attempts at fixing so far:
1) Swapped out full steering wheel, including switches and clockspring to known working set - no change - both sets worked fine in the donor vehicle.
2) Transfer Case Control Module Replaced - no change
3) Brake pedal switch replaced - no change
4) Brake light bulbs replaced for genuine - no change
5) Hard Reset done numerous times - no change
6) Cleaned intercooler
Things I need to check next:
1) Wiring to Transfer Box
2) Wiring to Rear Diff
3) Rear PDC wiring loom & replace possible faulty rear sensor
4) Check intercooler hoses for splits/ delaminating (the big one is silicone though)

clive
I've got a new rear pdc loom and a good working pdc module if that helps
