Spooky has just confirmed over on the other channel that the Rear Diff ECU on MY08 is a branch off the canbus rather than inline, so it seems that the canbus hasn't been chopped and spliced previously, which is a result.

Ok, that makes sense and is the way it is done on the D4.

I'll give the 'new' symptoms some thought.

Update time..... It's fixed............finally Thumbs Up Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

It's been quite a long journey and I have had help from numerous forum members to which I am eternally grateful Very Happy

1) I had a noisy transmission under load - fixed with new rear Prop Shaft
2) Noted split CV boot when doing this - fixed with new Drive Shaft
3) I had the issue of it going into limp mode under load, fuel rail pressure was 17,500KPa on hard acceleration - fixed with new HPFP fuel rail pressure now 158,070kPa on hard acceleration Shocked
4) Had 'dead spot' at 1600-1900 rpm....tried Alisport Intercooler, blanking EGR's (even though EML should have come on it didn't) both no real change....finally fixed last week with new front NS brake caliper ....only able to diagnose once it seized solid
5) Had hard brake pedal when car left over night......again this was fixed with the new FNS brake caliper Banging Head
6) Had knocking on front end....fixed with new Front Lower Arms
7) Had wobbly rear end.....fixed with new Rear Upper Arms
8 ) Had play in steering.....fixed with new steering rack
9) Had knackered wheel bearing....fixed with new wheel bearing Shocked
10) Couldn't communicate with locking rear diff ECU via MSV2.....fixed by reconnecting ECU to wiring loom as this had been disconnected during ownership by a previous owner, was this to mask fault No11? Banging Head
11) Had transmission fault dash message relating to locking rear diff once wiring reconnected.....temp fix by turning off Rear Diff in CCF
12) Range Change on the move unavailable, requesting this resulted in a full Xmas Tree exhibition on the dash......fixed by coming to a halt to change range, to the amusement of Defender drivers everywhere Laughing
13) Cruise Control NF despite proving no fault with buttons on steering wheel by swapping clockspring, steering wheel, buttons and airbag onto SWMBO's D3, resulting in her CC still working and mine still not working. Also proved buttons to be 100% fully functioning by using IID Tool, MSV2 and the fact the HDC speed could be controlled by them where appropriate.....fixed by pressing accelorator pedal instead of steering wheel buttons Banging Head
14) Unable to clear Service Indicator...can zero it but is then counts up again as if the service is overdue....can't be reset properly by MSV2, IID Tool or Auto logic...fixed by using the MSV2 to 'hide' the service indicator function from being shown on the dash at all.
15) IID Tool live values showing Rear Diff Clutch temp to be 470deg....Pat at GAP asks me to check on another vehicle to make sure the IID Tool is reading this correctly http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic125846.html fellow G4 owner (G4 Fergy) let me check his and all is good...feedback to Pat and wait....

Items 10 - 15 were all finally resolved by Pat at GAP in one fell swoop this evening Bow down Bow down Bow down

Having sent him a back up of my CCF file he diagnosed that it was well and truly corrupt, and as I have had issues 10-15 from purchase of the vehicle, it can't be anything I have done.....Pat obtains a copy of the 'as built' CCF (the one that BBS supplied me 12 months ago didn't have any Mcodes in it on the LR database, was this because this file was possibly corrupt at source? I don't really know, but it didn't resolve the issues I was having) and sends it over to me this evening together with a bespoke version of the IID Tool firmware to use to load it onto the G4......a couple of revisions of the firmware that Pat is beta-testing with me later and I set off for test drive.....I was that shocked when I pressed the CC button that the CC actually worked I nearly wrote the Censored thing off Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Next step.....Range Change while moving, again it works, the service indicator has disappeared from view AND the locking rear diff is enabled in the CCF with no dash error messages and no related DTC's

So in a nutshell, 15 months later, I now actually like my G4 100%, it's been stressful, challenging and costly (what the hell..... even fun, now I look back) to get it where I want it and where it should be, but touch wood.....we've made it Very Happy Very Happy

Thanks to all those who have given time effort and knowledge to help me, espcially Amondeggs & Harvoy for their time in Jan 2014 on my drive swapping Prop Shafts, Geoff for allowing me to pick his brains and for Bodsy suggesting I buy an IID Tool Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

And a massive thank you to Pat at GAP......unbelieveably smart guy who is clearly very good at what he does Bow down Bow down IMHO his system is by far the best I personally have used.

To those of you who think I must be a bit crackers............ if it wasn't a G4 I would have traded it in by now, but with its history and character I felt it should stay on the road (and my Driveway Very Happy ) AND be fully functional. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Brilliant. I struggle to diagnose individual faults, to sort out so many at same time took some doing.

Question from someone who does not know so much.

How do I make a back up of the CCF file and can someone (Pat?) look at it and see if it is corrupt?

At the moment, the IID will do a backup of your CCF when it connects to the car, but you cannot get access to it other than to restore it.

The new functionality that GAP are working on, I understand will expand on that capability for CCF.

Glad WE could help. Of course, it is a team effort and not a one men operation, Christian's name should be in there also since he did most of the work! Since we've seen this before (3 other cases), we are getting geared up for it. All in a days work!

A corrupted CCF can generate a whole lot of strange issues. This will only happen after a CCF re-flash was performed with a diagnostic tool and something went wrong during the process. To prevent this (no occurrence with an IIDTool as of today), we have strengthen our re-flash procedure but that's another topic... Depending on how corrupted it is, the symptoms can range from an unusable vehicle to annoyances like the dome light not functioning properly.

Unless you have these strange issues after a CCF flash and no fault codes associated, I wouldn't worry about it. The basics need to be eliminated first by using regular diagnostic methods.

Have a modified file from Pete Bell which i load and unlod depending on visits at the workshop. Happens often.....
Could something have happened when I am doing this with the ECU?

And yes it is a G4, but with ARB and Kaymar bumpers

What you are referring to is an engine re-map provided by Pete Bell. This is the equivalent of re-flashing the engine ECU which is not related to the CCF itself. http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/
