got my 7 year service due soon got a quote from a land rover service centre and i think someone is trying it on a bit.
service with belts and pulleys £867
oil pump change £835
They have seen a couple come in with broken pumps.
I havent spoken directly to them so i assume they have priced the pump as a job on its own so there is double labour in the quote.
knowing LR's habbit of putting up prices of parts this still sounds a lot. What is the going rate at the moment for this service.
As i have just emptied my bank on putting a new chassis under my 22 year old defender i have cancled Christmas and now with the disco service looming i may have to cancel new year and holiday. And before any one suggests getting rid of one that would be the same as choosing weather to cut off my left or right arm.

C'mon Chris. Lighten up a bit, pal. It's not all bad. Laughing Thumbs Up

Why don't you ask Flack to do the belts on your D3? You might need to travel to get them done but it's going to be a fair bit better value than paying a LR Service Centre that much. Shocked

Drop him a PM. I'll be getting mine done in the new year so there might be some kind of "Belt Fest" going on somewhere. Thumbs Up

Give a couple of main dealers a call. You may be surprised as they'll match most quotes if you're up front.

Mine was done by Guy Salmon in Ascot, cheaper than a local indy.

thanks guys
The only reason I was staying main dealer was it is only a month out of warranty and has only covered 35,000 miles in 7 years and I was hoping if I stay main dealer and something big falls off with low miles and dealer history I might get a bit of help from land rover. I say that because my D2 was two months out of warranty without dealer servicing and the compressor went and I was told that as it was out of warranty they had no obligation to fix it or pay part as I hadn't had it dealer serviced. this may or may not be true but I thought it worth a shot.

I have a great LR guy locally who would do it and will be doing it from the next service and I have paid for him to have a very good Christmas this year I know as I buy all his Christmas and birthday stuff in payment for doing my work so little money changes hands although after doing my chassis change with him I think I am paying for next years Christmas as well Rolling with laughter

I will have a ring round some other dealers and I will ring Likes in Hay on wye where it came from as they have been very good at looking after it but they are a four hour drive from me so a low price there has to take into account fuel and an overnight stay, but it does mean I get to drive it for four hours a rare treat. Very Happy . It spends it time locked in a barn I did open the door the other day to check it was still there and worked out it was about a month since I drove it Embarassed , note to self I must get out more.

I was just wondering what the average price is that people are paying as a guide to having a haggle.

North of £1k including VAT in Surrey Sad, best price.

That said, it's all in the timing as if the workshop is low on business they'll do a deal.

Stratstones are still offering £599 for the full service with belyts change, or £399 for just the belts. Click on 'Sponsors' at the top of the page and then scroll down to their adverts.

Even if there is not one close to you it may be a useful bargaining tool

The prices so far.
The quote from the service centre of £867 for the service and £835 for the oil pump was for doing the pump while they do the belts.
lookers bishop's stortford never answered the phone.
Lancasters in Welwyn have yet to phone back
likes at hay on wye gave a loyalty discount and made it £918 for belts and service and £513 to do the pump while they are in there. I think that is a fair ish price even including the trip to them.
I was told by one of the people I phoned that stratstone use parts made by the people who supply land rover but are not branded parts. I have no idea if that is true or false they might have just been trying to put me off them.i haven't phoned them yet so don't know their price for a pump change or what they say about parts fitted.

Hi

No idea how far it is for you but Beadles in Sidcup (Kent not far from M25) were matching Stratstones and I've always found them okay.

Try main dealer discounts website they normally come up with a few, or stratstone were doing a £399 belts deal or £599 belts and service deal, have a look on hear about the oil casing I think it is for the 07 and above think someone advised they had replaced something like that at the same time, sure someone else will be on to explain it better.

Did our 07 earlier in the year, had all the idlers, tensioner, water pump and oil pump casing swapped whilst we were at it....came in at about 1k quid, but I also had 2 new front wishbones to fit myself and tow bar electrics too.

The belt service was about 600, plus the extra anvils...the oil pump casing was about £62.... Worth doing whilst your there IMHO.

Cheers

funny

I got the same as Alan B - never noticed the miles from where I live but £750 quid down from over 1K. Some place called howden. I have to say though, liked the animation of putting the words into google. I can think of a few places I can use that.

I am going to use Geoff (site sponsor) in the new year for mine.

cheers
