On my D3 the lights could be adjusted, make sure you have breakdown cover for your car and if you are pulling a tintent make sure you have cover on that too.

Roads are better over there than they are here in Ireland, so you should not have any issues, when you get off the ferry, just take it easy for a while and you will be fine.

Oh and if you have speed cameras on your satnav, turn them off.

Do you still need to take breathalysers when driving in France? I don't think the head lights can be adjusted the headlight, so Its still the stick on deflectors.

From what I little I know, breathalysers are not law but you might Censored off mr plod if you don't have one.

For what they cost, buy one and leave it in the glove box alone with the first aid kit.

Forget the breathalisors (French police are not enforcing that stupid law) and don't worry about changing the lights of stick on things. I've done many, many trips through france in the D3 & never changed them, never been flashed or had any issues. Thumbs Up

Just remember to drive on the other side, it's when you think you have it sussed that you revert to driving on the left. Be extra careful when there is no other traffic to follow. Plus careful when you get back.

also remember you are not allowed to use speed camera alerts on your satnav or tomtom - although I have no idea how they enforce this??

(sorry just noticed this is mentioned above) - but I would still be interested to know how it is enforced. Esp if your passenger has a phone in their pocket with them enabled? Who do they prosecute in that case? What a daft law.

TomTom reclassified the camera sites as "safety zones" so they work as usual. They did look at killing them but did this instead. Been flashed a couple of times & nothing came of it, but Gendarme patrols would not be as kind.

You need hi viz tabard for all persons in the car, and you need to be able to put them on before you get out the car. Door side pockets are ideal. Thumbs Up

TomTom have got over this by changing the alter for a speed camera to a "danger zone".

Quote:
Changes to the law in France - Since decree n°2012-3 was introduced on 3 January 2012 it has been illegal to be warned about the position of fixed or mobile speed cameras while you are driving in France. If your TomTom navigation device has the Speed Camera service and you continue to use the service, you risk a fine of up to €1500.

New update: TomTom Speed Camera service becomes Danger Zones in France
TomTom had a meeting with the Road Safety Ministry to clarify the situation regarding new and upcoming legislation. As a result, TomTom is introducing a 100% compliant Danger Zones service available in a free download for compatible products.

Some more information on TomTom

Quote:
New Danger Zones service in France

What do I need to do?

If you have a device that is supported, you need to connect your navigation device to TomTom HOME or MyDrive and do the following:

Download the new update that activates French Danger Zones on your navigation device.

Download the one-time free download of a French Danger Zones file. This is for everyone even if you don’t have a subscription to the Speed Camera service.

How does it work?

In France, all types of speed camera locations and accident black spots are now reported using a new service: Danger Zones
Specific locations are not available and a Danger Zone icon is shown instead.
The length of the zone depends on the road type at the current location and can be 300m/2000m/4000m.
In future, Danger Zones provided by the French government (Zones de Vigilance Accrue) will be included in our database as they become available.

Useful tips

The only speed limit indicated is the one from your map. It can be incorrect if the map is too old and needs updating.
If several cameras are close to each other, the warning can be merged in a single longer zone.
The reporting of Danger Zones is still possible and legal but the location will be randomised for all users. TomTom appreciates the continued community-based reporting.
Danger Zones are only available when driving in France. The TomTom Speed Camera service works as normal outside of French borders. This applies if a route goes across French borders.
If you drive without a route planned, the performance of the Danger Zone alerts may decrease.
The service has been renamed to Danger Zones in the Services menu on your device. However until your device has a GPS fix and knows it is in France, the menu may still refer to Speed Cameras.

Change the lights - it takes about 1 minute once you have done it a few times- instructions in the manual. No need to dazzle anybody, and you might as well light the correct side for you.

I recommend a sticker on the wheel with "Keep right" written on it. The most dangerous time is puling onto road out of petrol station, car park, shop. Try and prevent it. Knew two at school killed that way.

If travelling at busy time, get a peage chip.

European breakdown cover.

Reflective jacket in car. Red triangle.

IIRC halogen headlights require a sticker but xenons have a lever. Is a bulb kit still required ?

Changing the lights is a real bee itch so never bothered. We rarely do much driving at night when in france anyway and when we did, nobody flashed.
