Why can't you have the vehicle running while making the updates?
Adjusting the suspension allows you to have the vehicle running. Possibly other adjustments, although am not sure.
Flashing ECU's requires you to turn the vehicle on and off. During that time, it appears the vehicle loses functionality as the computers are re-booted. Lights flash, solenoids click.
It seems that all of this quite complex from this thread, but the tool walks you through things very well. I am exceedingly happy with what mine does for me.

My pleasure leadoverdistance
The IIDTool won’t prompt you to update your suspension ECU when the IPC is updated. In fact, if the suspension warning lamp does not come on after the IPC was updated, it means the suspension ECU was updated in the past.
Cheers!

Firmware cannot be updated while it is running, just the same as you can't update a program on a computer while it is running. It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Narpy, you can get the docs via the updater too - but you do need the tool plugged in so it knows what version to download Mark.

I've had some limited success today after tinkering with the IID.
I now have the clock in dash mod and the subsequent old FBH light with lights on and I have also successfully managed to recalibrate the steering angle sensor which has needed doing for a while.
Both of these were easy enough. Clock was showing --:-- but a hard reset solved that.
I have failed with the 3 flash indicators though. I have the feature acknowledged as active but it doesn't appear to be working, no idea why. However, having just read the manual, I need to now update the body control ECU. Could somebody please advise regarding how I go about doing this as hopefully this should work?
++UPDATE++
The Body Control flashing feature appears to be temporarily unavailable so that's why I couldn't find it.
One thing I have noticed however is there is a large amount of assumption that the user should already know where the various features are located within the vehicles systems and that is just not the case. Everything seems a bit vague, even the menu tree in the manual doesn't help you locate much and I'm sure this could be much clearer. In short, I know what I want to achieve and know that the tool can do it, I just can't find the info detailing exactly how I go about it. Mods:

Is the battery voltage sufficient to flash the BCU?
The three flash turn signal will work when that has been updated. Good luck!

Its not a voltage issue, which is fine BTW.
The BCU flashing feature has been temporarily removed. This from page 35 of the manual:
"Updating the BCM Body Control ECU adds the 3 turn flash feature. It will also have to be enabled in
the Car Configuration File (CCF). This re-flashing is temporarily not available."
Looks like it's not currently an available feature with the most recent firmware. Mods:

I have three flash indicators too....
That is strange Narpy. At a loss here. I wonder if hooking it up to your computer again, and hitting the IIDTool updater program ensuring you have the latest version downloaded is a good idea. Maybe it didn't update, as this is a new feature and recently released. Worth just having a look-see. I would give it a whirl. You possibly have done this, but, I am out of ideas.

I have version 2.18.05 installed, only did it the other day.
If you read my post above, I've directly quoted the user manual for that version.
When I choose Flash, I can only select Instrument Pack, then there's an old version of something IPC I think, and then there's Suspension. The BCM is no longer an option which was why I asked how to do it as I could find it.
Looks like Gap have removed that function for some reason, go read page 35 at this link: http://www.gap-diagnostic.com/webScripts/d...-LR304.pdf, but believe me, it's no longer there. Mods:
