The front diffs are known to fail and it does it when you turn the steering so it would point me to diff.

Stick it in low ratio and off-road height then reverse it on full steering lock...you'll very quickly know if its the front diff... Thumbs Up

Sounds like what I had (and I'm sure mine will return but for now Thumbs Up). Mine when making that noise was sometimes violent as it felt like the rear axle would be kicked back from the D3. Dealer could never replicate it on their own, I just figured it would fall apart one day and we'd have an answer. But alas the diff fluid replacement eliminated the noise / vibration. I know what it feels like to be telling the dealer what the problem is, showing them, then they say - all is good.

I've tried low gear in off road height, low gear access height, reverse forward, hard acceleration, light acceleration and nothing apart from a few funny looks from people in asda's car park Rolling with laughter

Could it make a difference if the oil is hot or cold. When my diff was shot there was an improvement when I changed the oil. But it was still shot. Could it be breaking up the large bits of swarf into smaller bits.

There was plenty on mine. let the oil settle for a few weeks in a coffee jar and there was at least 10mm of swarf in the bottom. The other symptom I had was at 70mph ish lift off the throttle and feel and hear a droning noise through the steering.

Nope no droning or humming, doing me head in. Just a grinding and vibration sensation through accelerator pedal only under load all quite when deceleration and coasting. I have a hunch it's a drive shaft but Indy says there's no play in them and rubber boot are in very good condition Question

I had similar symptoms when transfer box on way out. Could feel grinding in steering and felt like the centre diff locking but it was also noisy, more so when power on than off.

Personally I think it's either a wheel bearing or drive shaft on its way out but I'm gonna wait now for it to get worse. Getting sick of spending money on things that aren't broken. Doesn't help, we only do around 100 miles a week so not really clocking up the mileage, takes longer for things to fail.

I have a slight noise when turning especially if the auto box is just slightly in too high a gear almost like the edge of the tyre being rubbed off. No metallic noises. Thought I would mention as I have a recon LR front diff now about 6 weeks old.

Just an update to my very slight grinding problem. Thought I'd take the plunge and payout for 2 new front wheel bearings to see if this was the problem. Picked the car up a few hours later with everything crossed and guess what. It's still f Censored g grinding. I hate this car at the moment.

£550 on new prop shaft inc labour
£360 on diff oil change front and back + transfer box oil and re-cal inc labour
£400 on 2 front wheel bearings inc labour

Total so far £1300.00 spent on eeerrrr f Censored K all Rolling with laughter Big Cry not sure if I should laugh or cry Embarassed
