Others with way more knowledge will be along but basically check the service history and ask if there are receipts for previous work ( you can see if the common faults have been sorted). It is due a cam belt at 105k and it can be expensive.

Nice colour coding to wheelarches.
The drivers seat base looks a bit crumpled, poss just picture.
I would just examine history carefully, with 100k on has it had belts etc done or are they 'overdue'....( obviously check for the 105k service - note which LR dealer did it & give them a call to confirm its SH, some will help some wont of course. see ths thread for recall upadtes : http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic105844.html)

Price wise I guess its about right, although my 2005/05 HSE came from a main dealer with 85k FSH etc etc I did get a 18month LR warranty with MOT failure etc etc for a fair bit less than the 16k they want, granted its an older car but my guess is c14250.

Just the basics really,

Cam belt ! As its in the VIN range for failure no doubt
Tyres, wear ? Is it even is there any there are they all the same tread pattern "for me if you can't be @rsed to match the tyres then what else is scrimped on ?
Brakes, EPB wise does it engage / dis engage, pad thickness disc thickness
Chips in windscreen
Dings in roof "never overlook this"
Has it got an oil leak check underneath for wet patches on the X member
Coolant bottle
Brake fluid res
Screenwash does it squirt the headlamps ?

Interior has it got genuine over mats
Seat belt wear
Look under the 7th seats
Does the phone integration work can your phone see it ?
Sat Nav working
Heated seats

Basically look for anything that can get the price down use these items as a bargaining tool ?

Good luck and keep us posted ?

Very nice looking motor.

Take it out for a decent run to get the gearbox oil warm.
Try to drive up some hills, if there are any, to put the gearbox under some strain. this should tell you if there are any problems with the transmission fluid.
If there are no hills, try to go for hard acceleration in the lower gears and look for the revs hunting.

Check the tyres for even wear too.
Thumbs Up

The belts are due in 5k miles or next year ( 7 years )
I would get them to do this now though as it will cost a fair bit of your budget.
If they are not prepared to negotiate on this, start walking as another will be along soon.
Best colour IMHO Stornoway with colour coded arches, tints etc.
Also check spare wheel is it an alloy or a runner?
Tax Mot etc usual stuff. As said before I put my tuppence worth in

Good luck

Thanks chaps Thumbs Up

1 owner, Full 'stratstone' service history to 90k.

Needs 105 service and obviously cambelt (oil pump) so that's a grand!

Yes that seat base is suspect but i'm hoping it's the low res pics.

with you on the Tyres Chalky, cheap or miss-matched always spells corners cut to me.

The electric bits like phone intg and sat nav are always trouble for me as having never owned one i've not got a clue how they work Embarassed ?

To add to the previous posts:

Check low and high range, manual gear selection and sport modes all work without incident
Check all programme modes can be selected without errors
Check air con works and blasts cold plus fans etc., all work automatically adjusting speed and heat as req'd
Check sun roofs
Check suspension raises and drops properly
Using brakes, quick dabs of throttle, road humps, check for any clonking suspension components that could indicate worn lower arms and/or ARBs, at 100k it might be ready for it's 3rd set (Ours is due now at 58k)
Check all steering wheels controls work properly
Ensure it has it's Sat Nav disc and works
Check the CD player works properly with ejecting and receiving the 6 CDs it'll swallow
Check aux port and rear seat heating in rear centre console
LR tool kit etc., all present and correct in rear right hand wing cubby.
Front and rear parking sensors working properly

Take or borrow a fault code reader and ideally another forum member with you too - extra eyes do help and takes the pressure off.

Top tip - don't link directly to searches that have your postcode, unless you want us all to know where you live.

Another bargaining option - check for interior trim damage where the seat belts get caught in the door, especially rear doors Rolling Eyes
