True , but can't think of anything better to do with a prius. Hmmm maybe I should start a new thread on this one...

When my battery went flat last week, it was jump started by Land Rover assistance. They also told me that the car would have to go to the dealers for the battery to be recharged as the battery was so flat that even a decent run would not put enougth charge in the battery. Whilst the car was in they found out that it was a faulty battery anyway (my car had been having electrical problems for 3 weeks). 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Woody, might explain why my hour-long run hasnt put any charge in the battery. Sure I read on here somewhere that a good bench charge might help - maybe that's what the dealers do? Car turns 30(k) soon - thought it might last until service, but looks like I might need to pop in earlier.
Cheers. D3 HSE V8...

I believe so, but I also remember him saying something about the battery (because of its design) could only be trickle charged and normal car battery chargers would not be any use? 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Uh! Am I missing something here....... Do LR have a new type of battery specifically for the LR....? a 'normal' car battery charger should be able to high and low charge so I don't understand why it would need LR to do a 'bench' charge.
Does it have some new type of technological advancement that no other battery manufacturer has..? Bodsys Brake Bible

It's a Lead Calcium I think - knew it was different, but assumed all chargers were pretty much the same. What I mean is, I've not seen any special chargers on sale, but then I dont look that closely.
Which then begs the question... what charger do you buy / need to charge a Lead Calcium battery? D3 HSE V8...

recharging a flat battery |
|
When my TDV6 S was container-shipped UK to Uganda with key left in ignition (on 0) it arrived 12 weeks later with completely flat battery. After some tense minutes watching locals improvise jump leads (with a wheel nut spanner held with bare hands!) the car started. I left it idling for an hour and have never had any trouble with it since. That was 18 months ago. Was a newish battery at the time.

I have flattened my battery on a few occasions, usually by letting the kids watch DVD's in the car whilst I do something else. The problem I find is that the accessory sockets are only active when the ignition is switched to 1.
Each time LRA have jump started the vehicle and its been no trouble afterwards.
A big clue that your battery is getting low is a momentary HDC Error or Transmission Error message in the LCD display when the car is started. The message quickly disappears and everything works normally.
I have tried to get into the habit of switching the auto lights to OFF before switching the car on. This must save a bit of battery power.

Gareth on both fault occasions I have had the HDC error and transmission fault momentarily. I just assumed this was the low-battery condition caused by me.
I'll keep an eye on it D3 HSE V8...
