Hiya crwoody
Although the nanocom Evolution also uses a generic computer type 15 way D connector for its OBD connectivity, which is physically the same as the FCR. The functionality and wiring is distinctly different and so it requires a very specific Cable.
This cable, along with a lead that allows the Nanocom to be connected to a PC's USB port is supplied as part of the Kit.

Hi Colin,
Any date for the LR2 my2013 release in mind?
...as the FM MSV can write a new map to the Engine ECU, i.e. a BAS remap, will the nanocom have that level of programming?Altox GSM FBH controller thread

Hi Colin, am very interested in this new tool, the old FCR has saved me a lot of dealer trips being able to rest fault codes, until i managed to fix the fault, so being able to read more information and maybe change a few settings would be great, when is it ready as you can put me down for one.
dont suppose you want to do trade in on the old FCR Graham

Hiya Beanie
Yes it is indeed our intention to have the Nanocom Evolution also able to flash BAS remaps into the Engine Management. We have planned and prepared for this and we also hope that we can actually increase the supported engine types for later models at the same time. Of course also on the MSV-2
However, this kind of capability will not be included straight away.
This is really such a different and unique system that we are now developing coverage for in a very radical and advanced function based way, that in many respects we are starting from scratch on adding functionality and are having to find ways to overcome many new problems this new hardware and new approch presents.
At launch although all the core functions will be there and well tested, there will certainly be some bugs and diagnostic functions yet to be added. Fortunately, as the upgrade process is really easy for the user to do and for us to produce, i imagine that there will be quite a few in quick sucession, possibly 2 or three before Christmas alone.
It will be a work in progress for some time, but then once upon a time, so was the MSV-2.
I will be making documentation available before this is released, detailing the models and functionality that will be included at release time as well as what we plan to add in the not too distant future.
Hiya Gwiz.
Thank you for your kind comments of appreciation of our efforts in respect of the FCR.
It is a really superb bit of kit that is so physically nice and small, so well built, simple to use and with such an ability to save on dealer costs or get it's owner home in times of technical trouble, and when there was nothing other than the MSV-2 it provided the perfect lower cost solution and we will certainly continue to produce it.
In fact we have recently updated its coverage to include the new L405 Range Rover and the Evoque, making it the only third party equipment that yet covers these models.
Unfortunately we are probably the last people who have any use for a used FCR, and so we are not offering any trade in's but as i stated in a previous post on this thread, as beanie points out, you would likely fetch a very good price for it on Ebay
Hello Colin - so will we order via PM here or will they be available at the -20% introductory offer to the general public on your website?
Cheers,
Darren

Hiya Darren
There will be a Promo code that i will provide here and on all forums, as well as on the BBS and Brand new Nanocom web site which will be going live in the next day or so and has it's own web shop.
As this is not a forum related discount, there will be no eligability requirement or requirement to PM me the order Reference number as you currenly have to do for forum related discounting and I will be setting up automatic discounting on the web shops for this.
I am currently working on the functionality documentation, although now we have got all the core processing that goes on behind the scenes sorted, it is now a growing list, and even today we have started deciding what parameters will be displayed in the Instrument mode pages for each engine type.
For the benefit of anyone that does not know, the instrument mode is a function that is unique to the Nanocom Evolution and makes additional use of the units rather nice full colour TFT display beyond normal vehicle diagnostics.
It is an extra feature that you can even configure the unit up to run automatically from when it powers up and is why most existing owners mount the unit permanently in their vehicles, sometimes using the optional wind screen mount we provide as well as the 180 degree screen display flip option which helps cater for many mounting options on LHD or RHD vehicles.
It provides a selection of pages that provide a live display of a collection of engine parameters like Turbo Boost, fuel usage, air usage, engine temperatures, the latter also having a settable over temperature alarm. These are provided in a display that mimicks a segment type LCD display.
It sort of provides an additional instrument, a bit like the 4x4 info screen.
Here are some pictures of instrument page screens from a more simplistic P38 V8 to give you a more visual idea of how this looks in practice.
