On the understanding and acceptance that upon arrival the very first thing you would have to do to get any degree of CAN BUS coverage at all would be to self upgrade your units software which should easily be avaliable by the time you have the hardware delivered, i am willing to start shipping the hardware to anyone who agrees tomorrow (Friday)
For anyone interested, simply drop an e-mail to admin@blackbox-solutions.com indicating your agreement and asking for shipping on Friday.
I'm going for it and just emailed you with instructions to ship on Friday. I expect during the life of this product there will be many self upgrades to do so, why not get this party started now. As long as the only updates are software related, I see no downside to shipping early before all of the tweaks are completed.1998 Discovery LSE - Gold, 249,000+ miles, completely stock

BBS Nanocom Evolution and Gap Diagnostics IID BT Tool
In fact it is almost nice to see them step it up to the max and sets a precident they will now be expected to follow, or else
I can tell you for a fact that keeping staff running in the red is not a great idea. It's nice to know they can find the capacity and step up when it is essential but people do not give their best when they have 'or else' hanging over them just after they have pushed the boat out for you.
Just my opinion of course, that's all.

Good news to all
Although still not totally complete yet, we have at least produced a first version of the software today that is most of the way there and that the Beta Testers now have and can try over the weekend.
In addition this version of the software has also been put on all the units we have indeed shipped today for those e-mailing in and taking advantage of my proposal to save them a little time
As you say DiscoNels, it is a matter of fact that everyone will need to upgrade this a number of times to stay up to date with all the bug fixes and additions that we will surely be adding, and so there is no harm in anyone getting familiar with this simple process from the very start.
In fact it is very much a confidence builder for nanocom owners, and i compliment you on your forward thinking.
Paul:
The upgrading software does not currently natively run on a MAC, although we have it in the pipeline to add a native MAC version early next year.
In the meantime you can either get a cheap PC / laptop or use a windows emulator on the MAC, as many have done and IIRC i believe there is a very helpful thread about this on the Nanocom Owners.

Thanks for your thoughts and concerns about staff handling.

Be it on your head Big Cheese. I merely suggest, the buck lies with you ....or so I will state in court....
After being a member on this forum for close to a year I suppose I should stop stalking you all and say a big ** HELLO! ** .
A warm thanks to everyone for your understanding on what goes on behind the scenes and support what we do. It has truly been a hectic month.... or 9.

Being of Mediterranean blood, I have a different approach. It involves a lot of swearing, coffee, coffee, coffee, more swearing, calling The Machine names its mother would faint hearing , then reconciling with The Machine. Make-up programming is always better.
I do have to once again thank you all for your patience with this small delay. We have been burning the candle at both ends to deliver what we promised, and we will deliver. My avatar looks better than me at the moment.... sad yes... a direct quote from my better half however.

I do have to say the driving force has not been the crack of the whip, but a team goal. And if anyone could use a bar right now its me ))))
After being officially labeled as the "Head Minion" its back to the cage for me, for tomorrow we have much more work to do!
At your disposal,
Chris and the Blackbox-Solutions Team.

Thanks for the info, Im sure I have an old macbook somewhere thats running bootcamp with Windows.
It would be great to see the native version in the new year though.
Although I have my order placed with you, Id rather wait a few days longer until you are happy with the firmware, just in case I can't find that old macbook!!
Unfortunately, it seems you have to be a Nanocom owner to register for the forum, so I can't read the thread until mine arrives
Cheers

I've just had a look on the Nanocom forum and unfortunately cannot find the thread with information about using a Mac for updating firmware.
That said, I have in the past successfully updated the Nanocom firmware from OSX running the Kernel Manager program in a WinXP VM running in Parallels Desktop. (just tried it again in OSX 10.9 w/Parallels v9 - it also worked with earlier versions of OSX and Parallels)
I have not tried using VMWare (paid) or VirtualBox (free), but as long as they handle USB comms properly between OSs then there is no reason it shouldn't work.

Thanks Fifth Horseman
Good to know it works fine!! Just need to find my old macbook thats set up with bootcamp. Its set to boot straight into Windoz Vista, no probs with USB as it work fine with my rowing machine S/W.
Hopefully Chris & his gang will have the native MAC version out soon after New Year. Nothing worse than having to use Windoz when you're used to a proper operating system
Thanks again for checking the forum & confirmation of how to update

Hi Paul, Fifth,
As the Big Cheese mentioned were working on it, got the Macs out........ but we wont commit on something we don't have a time frame for. As such, even if it works on VM its not a proper version and so we cant support it.

Even if Mac users are a minority (could not resist)

Fair point about working via a VM being unsupported - I know some of the problems that the Faultmate can have when being used with a native windows installation if the windows/I.E. versions are not as expected, so appreciate that running software this way can have unexpected consequences. In this case I was willing to take the risk and it worked for me - others may have different results.
For this reason, for critical diagnostic and flashing work I keep an old Toughbook with a minimal WinXP install and just the diagnostic software on it. It's also cheaper to replace than the macbook if I drop it (the swappable HDD also make it easy to keep diagnostic softwares separate)

Your comments worry me greatly, given your current situation with the S/W & Chris' earlier comment ...

What you are basically saying is that there are going to be upgrades to the firmware a number of times, most probably a few straight after we get the new nano com, but, you can't run natively on a Mac, can't commit to a timeframe when this will be available, so Chris suggests running a VM, but you won't support that.
As with any S/W driven device, they are all great when working, but if you experience issues, you are, in the majority of cases, reliant on support of the manufacturer.
Im not that technically minded with computers, so maybe, as a Mac user, this isn't the product for me at present, which is a shame because it looks on the face of it a good product, but I need to feel confident that if I have problems, support is on hand.
Unless someone can convince me differently, I think I will be cancelling my order on Monday & looking else where.
Perhaps on the webshop you should make it clear under the product details, that only Windows is supported at present.
