Was wondering how long & how many miles/kms it takes peep's D3s to warm up? Mine is warmed (needle in the middle & warm air out the vents) up in 5 - 6 mins & 3 miles with suburban & rural driving at 30 - 40mph. This is regardless of temps, is same(ish) for anything from +16c down to sub zero. Nothing to do with FBH as that doesn't play.
Other peeps for standard cars?? No remote/timed FBH trickery or heated blocks or lighting fires under the engine.

Pretty sure mine takes longer (even with an operating FBH), more like 9-10 mins or 4-5 miles before needle in middle

Hmm...Mine can take about 20 mins before it's in the middle and about 10 miles. My FBH hasn't been kicking in so that's probably why.
Still....it shouldn't take that long

My FBH hasn't worked for ages and ages, when it did work I never found it made any difference. I was wondering if slow warming up was a thermostat issue.

The thermostat did cross my mind but I didn't want to mess about draining it/taking it apart until I was sure.
Has anyone else changed thermostat and found it fixed the heat-up time?

at what revs are you travelling the 10 miles - if its slow speed/revs then it can take longer.
I get on the mway pretty much straight away and keep to about 1500 revs / 50mph for the first couple of miles until the engine has warmed up - always have with the D3 and engine warms up quickly and always ran well upto 145k miles Duncan

But how long at that speed? Is it quicker warming up with slower driving (not much heat generated but less cooling through the rad) or warms up quicker with higher revs straight up to speed on the Mway (more heat generated but much more cooling)? Hmmmmmmm, puzzling.

Well...I've got about 15 minutes town driving to get to the M25 so for about 30 mins I'll be going at 30mph. I've not been paying that much attention to it tbh and some days it's quicker to warm up than others. I'll keep an eye on it and report back.

From 0 deg C about 3 miles urban up to 30mph (no traffic) then 1.5 miles roughly at 70mph/2000rpm on M61 and gauge in the middle (80 deg C coolant temp according to OBD output).
Gauge is starting to move off the bottom with initial de-icing impact on windscreen by about the 3 mile mark (50 deg C coolant temp I'd estimate based on OBD reading).
FBH not playing.

Its 5.5 miles to my office from home, and on the coldest of mornings she is always fully warmed up when I get there. It usually takes me about 15 - 20 minutes. However, I do feel warmth from the heater by 2 miles. My FBH works, and I always sit and wait for the screen to defrost with the electric screen before driving off.
