OK so my D3 has been stood at work since 0830 this morning, just been to get the mini-me's and its taken 6-8 minutes and travelling a distance of about 4-5 miles to get the temperature up. I guess that over night with frost it would take a few mins longer.

TBH I don't find it changes much with ambient temp, even down to well below freezing (-15c) it doesn't seem to make much if any difference. Will see what it's like tomorrow if I take her out as it's due to be -9c, according to the beeb weather forecast.

We've obviously been customers of TSL many years longer than I've been a seller.

And one of the reasons we started using TSL in the 1st place was exactly
what's being discussed here.

When you do short trips, the engine basically never gets the chance to warm
up properly and this also unfortunately results in the engine oil not being
at optimal temperature and performance.

Minus 5 here at the moment, and I'm off to the post office.
When I get there, 6 miles up the road, the engine is about
half way between where it is warm and stone cold.

Then I spend a good 10 to 15 minutes there posting and chatting
whilst the engine starts cooling down again.
Then I go back home and usually a mile before I get there
it reaches it's proper temperature.

Basically, my engine and oil are at temperature and protection levels
when I am back home again. Almost the whole trip the engine
and oil have been under performing.

For myself this is one of the reasons I've been using TSL, just like the rest of my
family for years, as it will be doing what it does from the moment
I start the engine until I come back. Rather than after 10 or so miles
when I am almost back home again.

Last night it warmed up nice and quick.

This morning it was -7. I drove 26 miles doing ~20mph for most of the journey. I was driving for about 1.5 hours and the needle was at the first 1/4 mark. This isn't right.

I'm guessing it is probably a mix of dodgy thermostat and/or coolant temp sensor??

In this cold the 4 mile trip to work sees the temp needle half way between cold and normal. Needle is pointing just above the dot for 1/4 on the fuel gauge.

Driving to college sees me sitting at 60 on the m8 in under a minute from leaving the driveway. Gets warm within 4/5 miles.

Fbh none working.
