Voice recognition problems |
|
Yeh, I know, pathetic to ask, but I am having difficulty in getting the voice recognition to work. Before you ask, I don't have a strange accent, even though I've been trying everything from Chinese to Russian!
Is there a way of training it, or is there something wrong that needs plugging into a computer?

As far a I know, there is no training that needs to be done. Just try "help" then start progressing with additional commands.
Mine has always worked well and been very reliable (detection) until the software upgrade a few months back. Since then, it regularly gets it wrong and I've never been able to use the notepad function since - can't record, play or do anything with it - she just says "sorry" each time I try. Matt

I forgot to say mine's an '07MY.
I have only ever been able to get the CD to work using voice commands, despite reading all the commands correctly. I dunno if it means anything, but the voice is male - maybe he doesn't like me?

Mine works almost all the time. The only thing that affects it is when I have the heater fan making lots of noise, usually first thing, during de-mist.

My car came with the male voice set from new. Soon changed it to the female voice. A female nagging in the car, is something I'm more accustomed too. Matt

if you press the hard right nav button and go into settings there will be a setting called Audio (their is also a language setting - ignore that one), select this and make sure that English female is selected (no option for English male - at least not on mine). 1996 Discovery 1 300TDI ES Biarritz Blue, sold

Wonky, I too found this.
When driving a 2006 S I had no problems at all, but my 2007 HSE just apologised all the time.
I decided to have a play around, and eventually discovered that it's 'cos my voice is too deep pitched.
Try giving it commands whilst imagining your nadgers are in a clamp. It's sad, and not suitable for when you have passengers but the raise in pitch works. No really!
I'll be glad when there's a less embarassing fix Dr. Ian Malcolm:
"Yeah, but your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should."
Transgenic tomato anyone?

At a recent LRE 1/2 day, the guy who went round was talking about the D3 in general and the SatNav apparently has real difficulty recognising speech if you set it to American english.
Sounds exactly the same, but not got the right phonetics set up for it to recognise you.
Don't know how you change it, but the problem sounds the same as he'd described....
Worth a shot anyway...? Bodsys Brake Bible

A minor off topic point. If you get really off doing the same old city route back and forward to work, change the sat nav voice to that of another country [preferably one you don't understand]. Hell, it makes the most mundane journey seem almost cosmopolitan. sad innit!! ...... always on the road less travelled 🚧
