I had the iiD Tool which served me well on my FFRR x2 and my D3, but have through the forum upgraded to
a Faultmate MSV-2. It is not as easy to use, but has far more options, these are a bit of a learning curve to use. But baby steps and all that!
If BBS could advise what is due to be released for the extreme ones as upgrades this would be great, but cost is massively different from a few hundred pounds to a thousand, so balance what your going to be doing, to cost, but always err on the side of doing more as you will get suprised by what you want to do once you get comfortable in the process.
The only thing I would like to see is the option of basic things being allowed on mutliple cars, so the owner car help fellow owners with service resets, or towbar electrics activating, as these are commonly asked for everyday and are the things that cost money for no reason.
Anyone agree for basic coverage to allow the units to far more flexible, or a premium purchase right without full garage versions.

To be honest, and this is only my opinion, the MSV-2 at £825 should be multi VIN, or at least the more mundane things it can do should be. I just cannot justify that sort of money on a one car machine. You guys are gonna be busier than a test bench in a plunger factory!

I do agree, multi on any car for the basics would make it probably sell much better as well, as owners do like helping each other, and I am sure it would actually generate more sales for BBS,
Especially with the compeition now on the market..., still outstanding bit of kit, just needs the referred to new features to keep it ahead of all challengers

totally agree!!
I'm sorely tempted to go with the Hawkeye for this reason alone - just the better features of the IID causing me to swither, along with allegedly imminent upgrades. The fact this is open to any D3 (or other single variant) is a great way to go. I know they have to restrict it somehow but at least this way, it lets mates help mates and still pushes multi-variant pro-users into the higher end stuff.
The other suggestion of open access basic features, with vin locked clever stuff is another way they could go.
Either way, I think they'd generate as many sales, as they fear they would lose, through non-owners getting a taste of what it could do.
I also wouldn't mind seeing prices start to drop a bit. Seems like these have been edging up historically and not many electronic items do that. The initial design, development and manufacturing / tooling costs of these offerings get absorbed early on and the ongoing development and support phase is surely a much lower cost burden. Surely then the goal has to be to drive maximum market share, with hopefully associated brand loyalty for the future.
IF IID was single variant right now, rather than single VIN, they would seriously be cleaning up I think.
A £200 single VIN IID tool or a £300 single variant IID tool. Now that would be a choice I'd like to be faced with

to tell you my story:
i bought a used D3 on august 2012, got f..ked up by "automatic transmission failure"
just 2 weeks after buying.
the decision for any fault reader was made.
i decided to buy an IID tool, works fine so long and help via email from GAP was perfect.
price and size are excellent for "just in the glovebox for any case".
but....
actualy i have a fuel-consuption problem and i would like to check
the injector values. no way with the IID tool (or i am to stupid to find).
now thinking of an aditional msv2 for more detailed value reading
and setting.
It's a pity the boys in Cyprus don't let you have some form of multi VIN if only just to check for faults, imagine how helpful this would be when looking to buy a car, just plug in your Faultmate and do a quick scan.
The gear from Black Box is good, although expensive
I looked at buying one a while back, no way to justify the money for a bit of test kit to chuck in the garage. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Down and out's Velar

Another disappointing thing with Black Box Products
I already have a Rovacom Lite, only bought this (quite a lot of money back in the day) just to clear some waring lights on the dash of a TD5 Disco. But to be honest, it did the job I wanted.
The problem is if I want to add my Sport onto the hardware I already own then the cost is circa £1500. This cost is yet again, because I have to have a multi vin licence on my Existing hardware. Yet I only want it for my own car.
I can trade in my Rovacom, however the trade in money would just about cover the shipping charge. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Down and out's Velar

There are a few things with Colin's prices that could be better. The market has moved on but I suspect the prices still reflect Colin's investment rather than what the market can now bear.
I really like BBS products but to me it makes more sense to buy either a VIN-free Hawkeye or a VIN-strapped IID Tool. If you need full-on Faultmate work it makes more sense to call one of the guys on here.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
The disappointing thing for me, when I bought my Rovacom, there was no single or multi vin options available.
Remember the Rovacom Lite was intended for the DIY enthusiast, and was not intended for commercial use.
The wording used by BBS

I would buy the Sport software package and additional lead instantly, if I was allowed to buy the Single VIN version, however, I have to buy the Multi Vin / commercial version. Sorry, BBS that is just not good enough. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Down and out's Velar

CCF with IID tool
I have a Hawkeye that I use on my Freelander but need some ccf mods on a D3. Can you please give me some feedback on IID. Can the IID tool modify the ccf for D4 Bluetooth module upgrade ? (Car has no Bluetooth), also adding cameras, xenons etc. Or do I need to find someone with a Faultmate ?
Thanks
Rich

Hi Rich
Yes, it will allow you to change those required CCF settings on a D4.

Just to help clarify, I believe Rich (richroof) was looking for confirmation on the CCF changes he mentions on a D3 and not a D4.
I think his reference to D4 was only in respect of his wanting to retro fit a a later D4 Bluetooth phone module on his D3 which is a common upgrade
