So final question I promise lol so if I have no DPF am I better with Mineral JASO-FB or Semi-Synthetic JASO-FC

As I understand from this thread, the alleged benefit is the same with FB or FC for cars without DPF. Cars with a DPF should opt for FC because of the effect on the DPF alone. I stand to be corrected. I've been putting FB in mine for the last 4 tanks and and will carry on doing so.

Where's the best place for bulk 2 stroke just now?

Have run out of the last bulk buy - time to top up again. Where is the best deal for 10-20 litres of the most suitable for adding to diesel?

You guys always seem to sniff out bargains.

I've been putting it in everytime it gets to a quarter of a tank.

Yes - its in the Shogun though. Normally sounds like a tractor - more refined with the 2 stroke added. Yes at every fill so run the tank down then refill both Diesel and 2 stroke

So what does 2 stroke actually do to help the engine then I'm intrigued
 If it moves and it shouldn't duct tape it, if it doesn't move and it should walk away and get a big hammer

You've got some midnight oil reading to do...
Lots of scripts & opinions to read....even some scientific stuff

I capitulated & started using it...after deciding waaaaaaay back the advantages weren't economy or cleaning the engine bits
One thing that does "sound" better is the engine....

The dilution rate per tank of fuel is tiny....

Right now ...We need Government - not Politics
Save the Dipstick Flagbearer-keep it simple, less likely to fail campaign-agenda items:Starting Handles, Acetylene Lamps.

Dont think it really does much more than quiet a Diesel engine it seems fuel companies already put lubrication in fuels.

But very interesting none the less think I'll just put diesel in

I'm going to bow to the

Wealth of findings on here - they are specific to the actual vehicle is use.
Even though I was 2-stroke averse - I did use diesel additives in the odd occasion in the past.

These from the bottle labelling all claim to clean, ungum, flush, the systems from the in tank pumps rightvtonthe actual injectors (the important bits) then also clean the MAF sensor which is a key element.
EGR valvescwe all have in place - but like many more mine were blanked.

I've been selective in the brands of the "miracle cures" I've added - I've stayed away from petrol station CarPlan (Tetrosyl made) stuff & kept to RedX or Millers...as brands that I know & trust. Wynns, STP are there in radically more costly forms with greater claims - who knows ?

When my D3 is serviced I know they use some fuel addictive ? & trust that the Indie use (4xFour in Leeds) have more customers attending than me so are aware & know.

My thoughts are anything that gets to the actual piston rings to keep them free preserves the engine compression - which is the key to any engine efficiency & longetivity, what RedX originated with & are /were good at on petrol engines.
Petrol engines been a bit easier to get to piston rings if your can & do remove spark plugs.

It all probably hinges on actual vehicle usage too:
We all drive miles....but there's a difference to how these are clocked up.....local stop start has to be different to engine warmed right through & working up to its chuff on the motorway.
My D3 always "feels" better after a motorway run...especially a long one.
We all use diesel fuel....this too is a variable....from said to be inferior supermarket fill up (which we all use) right up to the far more costly at the pump stuff with claims as to extra benefits that are burnt away. I've never actually "felt" a difference, other than spending more & hoping.
We all (here) operate our vehicles in the UK with altering climatic variables - not only temperature but humidity....which is one sort of invisible hard to measure one that has to play an effect on fuel combustion.
And it's all about fuel combustion.

Maybe the whole thing is a bit subjective.
I've had colleagues with diesel & petrol engined vehicles with lumpy sluggish performance, described in whatever way they can altered by the use of some additive or other...there results & perceptions range from "made no difference" to "total transformation" have to couple to symptoms before & how long these are "cured".
I've often wondered if the particulates sensors that are used at MOT tests could give date on the "vital signs" of an engines combustion health ?
But being realistic that too would hinge on what's in the tank (cheap to not so cheap, any additives) climatic conditions, all the other variables combined & complimenting each other or not.

I can't sum it up for myself (arguments for & against), there is no official data that can be seen as the definitive word & to a great extent it depends on the results you are seeking.
A few more mpg ?
Transformation from clunky banger to rocket ship propulsion ?
Eliminate some malady or other ?
Reassurance that there is a preventative tonic at work ?

I've only added a few lines to an already very long thread that if ever resolved by some "answer" would indeed be a revelation. "Cocked-hat" theories proven or tumbled, experiences built upon, money wasted, risks (either way) avoided.

Meant for a totally different application of an internal combustion engine......used to be around in motor scooters, bikes, some cars. Still there in industrial & agricultural engines.
The fuel they use is "petroil" a mixture of ordinary petrol & the two-stroke stuff at a defined concentration
The engines draw in the mixture to lubricate the moving parts & are radically simpler mechanically.
The advantages are power to wieght ratio, can be made small compact, can be air cooled readily, don't need oil changes (total loss oil system)
The disadvantages - polluting....the 2-stroke oil is burnt off which was probably the main cause of discontinuing use...plus other engine mainstream technologies gathered ground, 2 strokes seemed to have favour in east European makes & originally in SAAB.
Get the oil concentration wrong - usually kills the engine...or stops the engine being used...even more pollution.
Don't confuse this 2-stroke petroil fuelled technolgy with two-stroke diesels....which are something else entirely. Either marine 2-stroke (scavenged, turbocharged) or road going 2-stroke like Rootes group Commer & Karrier vehicles had.

Bung two stroke oil into diesel fuel into a turbocharged diesels like we have, is adding something that isn't asked for or intended to go in there anyway....but niether are diesel fuel additives.

I often wondered if 2-Stroke engines for cars would re emerge in some form to use the power to weight advantages.
Apart from distinct petrol spark ignition & diesel compression ignition engines 2-stroke is one developed technology....the only other alternative I can think of is the engine in the Toyota Prius.....+ a lot more.
The Atkinson - Miller cycle engine.
Wikipedia has an amazing amount of detail on this technology.

48 pages on this thread so I may be repeating stuff that's been said because - being honest - there is no way I'm going to read it all.

my understanding of why adding 2-stroke oil quietens / smooths the engine is because it adds back in the lubrication factor that is reduced by reducing the sulphur content of fuels. No-one can argue it shouldn't be reduced because it's harmful but the engines we use today were invariably designed when sulphur content was higher, so the lubrication was expected to be there.
