Transmission Fault Not Enough Gears

LR3 HSE '08.

Got the above error message.

Engine not turning over. Taken key out. Put key back in. Turned Key, then got message "Limited Gears available", then "Park Brake Fault".

Hasn't been driven for a few days. Battery low?

Knew it was too good to be true. Anyway, 3 months of trouble-free driving. Is that some kind of record?

I had the wheel geometry sorted a week ago, and have been told it could be that the car was not reset properly...?

However, the car does not turn over. Not sure if there is any clicking.

Thanks.

What is your battery voltage? You can find it by accessing the hidden screen, I'm sure there will be instructions on here somewhere, or you can just stick a volt meter across it.

Yep, you should definitely have it on the HSE. Hold on I'll try and find the info to show how to bring it up.

i think you can get votage on the radio screen as well but I can't remember how to get that up off the top of my head.

Amazing. What Battery Voltage should I be getting? 14 volts? Or rather, what voltage would confirm that the battery is too low and causing the problem?

I'd think anything around 12v or lower would cause issues, but possibly a little higher. You'd normally expect to see 14 - 14.5 when the car was running and the alternator was charging. i'm sure there are other more knowledgeable than me that could give you a better guide on the voltage, but seeing the voltage would be a good first move.

it could be that your battery or alternator is knackered. My alternator went at similar mileage and my battery before that. Also the battery spec changed and is now 950a rather than 800a if I recall.

Yep not cheap.

although if you think they are expensive don't look at the cost of an alternator!

Bodsy did have some red tops that he was flogging, although not sure if they are enough to crank a D3, but he'll soon tell you.

Ok. Put key in. screen went on then went off now won't come on. The battery is almost flat, methinks. Need a meter. Fan came on. Then radio. Then wipers. Doesn't say key in ignition anymore. Clock reset to 00.20.

Yeah, I think the battery is pancaked.

The question is why? is it just knackered, has something been left on draining it or is the alternator knackered.

Genuine job from LR is more than that - they have just brought out a new type and I think Nick said it was nearer £200!
