Suspension Failure - Articulation Fault
Well, I'm about at the end of my D3 tether. Thankfully I've also got a D2. My D3 currently languishes out in the drive on its bump stops, for the second time. This first happened out of the blue at about 60 mph on a dual carriageway on the way into Edinburgh. Got the warning bells and message - 30mph maximum - and the car settled on its bump stops. Got it to local LR specialist who plugged in diagnostics - produced articulation fault which was cleared and, hey presto, up comes the suspension. It's been driven about quite energetically since in an effort to trigger a fault without result. Then tonight when I'm heading home in a very restrained manner it all happens again. Doh! Other possible symptoms of trouble were that the suspension has been up and down a bit at the front while sitting in traffic queues twice recently. Meanwhile the aircon has stopped working, the driver's door lock will unlock with the fob but won't lock, and the parking sensor wails and is obviously dead. Apart from the pain of a BIG bill to sort the rear bushes, handbrake, and various other suspension bits recently this car has been superb. But I'm thinking that I can't rely on it any more - my wife drives it during the week for her childminding business - I'm tempted to go Japanese unless someone can help me with this suspension issue. Please!!

had the same suspension fault all of 2 years ago, first thought it to be the non OEM brake light bulb on the nsr, changed whilst on route to a job, 5 mins later and another mile down the road... bing bong...
long and short, we had a 4 wheel alingment done only weeks before by an inde using local tyre shop which resulted in the articulation nsf to osr.....so got main LR dealer to do correct 4 wheel alingment set in tight tollerance as well as changed ALL four height sensors (only to find the wire on the OSR had been previously tampered with so was spliced back further in to the loom (LR do a splicing in kit for such events), since then all fine, never had an issue etc
the height sensors are pretty poor plastic and do get completely crudded up.
BTW at the same time the vehicle has to have the height sensors recalibrated and worth overinstall of software as an extra precaution.
if you've not had any new sensors, not point messing about, just get um all changed, not very expensive part

Articulation fault normally occur when one sensor readings differs from the other side by a predetermined amount. If this was in our workshop I would check all the readings on the Autologic, once we have identified the one that is out compared with the rest, we would check the resistance readings and voltages of the wires. Depending on this findings we would change the sensor if required. As Character has already said the sensors aren't great and replacing all is an option.

Thanks!!! I have had the full four wheel alignment done by main dealer recently, part of the recent BIG bill, so I'll get the height sensors checked and replaced. I'll keep you posted.

If you have just had your four wheel check done did it do this before if not I would get them to check your alignment again because if they have not set it correctly you could get this warning,
You can do a quick check yourself, by having the car set to normal height and then measure from the wheel centres to the top of the wheel arch and see what measurements you get.
Or your other option is do what Brian has suggested in his post.

Thanks to all for help with this - just back from local LR specialist with 2 new sensors, both on passenger side so just got to wait and see if this is a cure.

Spoke too soon - on early morning commute to local railway station it all happened again. Next? Replace the remaining height sensors, I think.

Back on the road again now with four new sensors - fingers are crossed but already a bit worried as, on the way home from the garage I got a single beep while leaning going round a roundabout. I also have this vague thought that the suspension isn't as supple as it was but that might just be paranoia setting in!
