For that use AT or ATRs would be a much better choice, unless you need serious mud pluggers offroad. Plus MTRs are discontinued & like hens teeth to get hold of. There is a new version out but not easily available, I think through Craddocks.

TYRES
I used to have Two sets of wheels, One with mtr's and one with scorpians.
Sold the scorpions and keep mtrs on permantly now!
Plus side: no hassle changing
Tyre wear 30k+
Dont need storage space
Look great on motor
Downside: Little bit noisey
mpg little lower (nothing to shout about tho!).
Me 80% road - 20% greenlanes.
All in all i prefer the mtr's myself, however have not tried anything else, so cannot comment on other brands.
Just my views, NOT trying to advertise or make judgments for others.

I would have thought an AT tyre would better suite your needs myself.
The new Goodyear Duratrac in 255/55x19 is available, very soon we should be seeing all the back order stock.
Having seen and driven on the new Goodyear I have to say I much prefer it to the old MT/R.

what sort of equivalent prices are the new Duratracs going to be then Andy?and theeeeennn......???
Also interested to hear what you think of the DuraTrac vs. KM2?
Since selling the defender we're a bit short on mud capability in the Do$h householdI know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Nice tyre for D3/4 and would be my choice, different tyres suite different vehicles, horses for courses.
Still KM2 's are great tyres.
Going testing the new General MT in September.

Andy, how does the Duratrac compare to the MT/R for noise and MPG?
The tread looks as though it'd be better on packed snow / ice / wet tarmac than the MT/R ? Is it winter rated?
I found the noise / mpg hit on MT/Rs to be a bit much, so running ATRs all the time at the moment, but if there was something that didn't get clogged up in sticky mud quite so easily, but was a bit more acceptable on the road I'd be interested too.

Having seen the duratrAc, i would say that there is less road noise than the current MTR's, this will also make them slightly more efficient. Still very capable on mud and with better sidewall sipes, should be better overall.
Can't wait to get hold of some when they come out.
Mostly road use, but when I do go off road, I like to have tyres that cope. Bodsys Brake Bible
No sign of Goodyear importing the Duratrac in 245/70/17 I suppose?I know it's not considered "kind" to say no these days, but no. Just no, ok? And if it's not ok, still no.

Not as noisy but can't give any info on MPG as I only did about 45 miles and it was very wet, better grip than MT/R.
I am sure I saw a mountaun and snowflake on the sidewall but am checking.
At this time with what is available and if I was looking for a more MT type tyre the Duratrac would be my choice.

DuraTrac 255 55 R19s
I have DuraTrac 255 55 R19s fitted and have had now for about 3000 miles.
They are noisy, but not so as the MT/R (I have these as a change set so I can do the comparrison), but it is marginal. I tune out though to be honest.
They don't carry the Moutain Snowflake (mine don't anyway), Only a snowflake, but the block parts of the tread have the small tread patterns (hard to explain - sorry) typical of my winter tyres, so they look Winterised and if you believe the Godyear Website they are Winterised.
They are far, far better in the wet than the MT/R, butb that's to be expected I guess, and with the recent weather I have put this to the test well. In mud I have no complaints, perfoming as well as my MT/Rs for what I need of them. I would need to stretch then a bit to really test, but so far I am more than impressed with them.
As the miles progress I'll report back.
I have pictures which I shall upload later if anyone is interested?D3 HSE V8...
