Grabber AT's

I have just removed a set of AT's from my Disco 3 after 53k Very Happy . Two worn right out , one pretty good (3mm) and the fourth just about street legal. Not so hot in the wet as they became worn but impressive none the less. Back on my Scorpion Zeros for the rest of the summer to see them out . Far quieter but the fuel consumption has gone from an average of 28.3 to 24.2.

Thats interesting as some reports were claiming worn out @ 25K Miles Shocked

Which i found difficult to beieve as mine have done more than that now Shocked
According to the check sheet rears are at 11mm fronts 10mm ?

That came off the sheet that i had after my car was serviced last week ?

Hi steamraiser

I have read so many threads on ATs vs ATRs vs Zeros vs winter tyres and I don't want to re-invent the wheel, but since you've raised the noise point specifically, I just wondered if you could remember back 52k miles and give me an idea of how much noisier a set of new ATs are compared to Zeros?

Appreciate it's difficult to describe in words how much louder something is, but any efforts to articulate it would be really helpful - for example would I notice any difference with the radio on at a reasonable volume? Would they drive me mad on a trip down to southern France this summer? I really have no idea how much louder we're talking!

Thanks

Hi James,

Before my D3, I had a defender on mud tyres. I was used to the loud wailing sound on the road.

When I got the D3 on the stock Goodyear Wranglers it was totally silent. Never believed a car could be so silent.

Last year I switched to GG AT2s. There is a hint of the wailing sound but it's not loud by any means, at least with the windows closed. With the radio on it is quickly drowned out. Obviously the faster you go the louder it gets, but then wind noise becomes the more dominant noise.

I run AT2's over the winter, and its only when you take them off, and think you've gone deaf, that you realise how noisy they are.

Got to be careful not to get GG AT's confused with the older GG AT2's. I understand they are completely different in terms of noise produced as the newer GG AT is designed to meet newer, stricter noise regulations.

Ive got AT's and i cant say that they are not noisy at all ? i've just been reading this thread thinking i've got the wrong tyres ?

So what are we comparing AT's OR AT2's ?
Going back to the OP have you removed AT's or the others

Al are you on about AT2's ?

I agree Chalky, I've got GG AT's and I don't think they make any noise at all. That's why I didn't want the OP being put off them by stories of noisy AT2's.

I think the OP was talking about GG AT's also...

Thanks for the replies chaps. Can't speak for the OP but I was thinking about the new style ATs when I asked the question. Like you say, I gather they've been designed to reduce noise and I was wondering how well they'd achieved that. Responses from those with ATs sound promising. I can see that the AT2 is a different kettle of fish.

As we all know all 4x4 tyres are a compromise. The more agresive the tread the more road noise you get but better off road performance. The GG AT's are one of the best compromises you can get at the moment, the tread pattern is not too agressive but good enought to push my D3 through about 4ft of snow, and they were half way worn at the time. Would defo go for them again. Thumbs Up
