Best of both rubber
Hello all - what's the "best of both" rubber for a D4? We use the car on the road and for caravanning - we often go to rallies where the field can get pretty cut up - we are looking for a tyre that is a good compromise between on road and "off road" if that's what you'd call it ðŸ˜
Thanks all

I can strongly reccomend the General Grabber AT
It is what you would call an All Terain tyre !
Quite aggressive tread pattern on the shoulders and across the tread.Only dead fish go with the Flow !

Pirelli ATRs, if you can get them in 19". Do a search for about 3 weeks worth of reading with one vs t'other.

If it's for a 20" rim, look no further than the Cooper Zeon LTZ.
Absolute cracking all round tyre.
...... always on the road less travelled 🚧

I think DSL sums it up perfectly with this post:
If you want a more expensive tyre that lasts 45K plus, no increase in noise or mpg, tough side walls and great in everything bar deep gloop, then it's the ATR.
If you want a tyre that is cheaper, doesn't last as long (~25k from memry) more agressive looking tread (for those that don't want to look as well 'ard as MTRs), good in all conditions apart from thick gloop, 2 - 3 less mpg, noisier and more vulerable to sidewall damage then ATs are for you.
Pays yer money & takes yer choice.
For a range of tyres actually tested on a D3, "Tyre Guru" Ken's independent test, is an excellent source of info. For those who missed it first time round:

Tyres Tested
17- Road
235/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler HP
235/70/17 Continental 4x4 Contact
18-All Terrain
General AT2 255/60/18
Pirelli ATR 255/60/18
Also tried Cooper LTZ 285/60R18
19 All Terrain
General AT's 255-55-19
Pirelli ATR 255-55-19
19 Road
Good Year 255-55-19
Scorpion Zero 255-55-19
19 Mud
Good year MTR's
19 Winter
Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow
Continental WinterCross
Vredestein Wintrac 4 Extreme
After quite a bit of Conventional & UnConventional testing the preferred & Overall winner Was the Pirelli ATR in 255/60/18 suffered the best mileage least amounts of punctures and side wall rips For those that will ask the General AT's offered no real betterment than the AT2 the tyre is a good tyre its just the side-walls can let you down in certain circumstances its up to the owner to decide if they are going to put the D3 in those situations. There are a plethora of tyre choices that we did not try as they would not be any use for us. Winters No real difference Over Conti / Pirelli we have been informed that we will have Nokians for next season thou
There will be peeps saying its rigged etc etc we did this for our own reasons to ensure I make the right decision for my own fleet not for your own car you guys asked I've told you you might not like the answers but there they are I stress the tyres work for me You all have your own brains to make you own choice Winters decided to not bother at all

And yet still the most popular AT we sell is the General AT, also Cooper starting to pick up on sales.
Fact............. we earn the same percetage from all tyres, total numbers tell us what's more popular.
One thing we have noticed this year is how much more aggressive customers are needing tyres for all this wet weather.

Are you sure the GG AT's only last 25K ?
Mine have done 20K and dont appear to have started wearing, thy have gotta get through serious rubber if they are going to be done in another 5K miles ?
Has any one clocked up big mileage on these yet ?Only dead fish go with the Flow !
