Well I have blown down the barrel with an airline and squirted some wd40 and still no joy with the spare key although it did open the passenr door ok so it must be the correct key. Maybe its just too new for the worn barrel .I'll give it a rub down with wet n dry to wear it a bit. [/b]

Have you tried removing the barrel to aid the blow-through?Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

no I haven't removed the barrel. I just gently opened the flap with a small screwdriver and poked the blow gun in the entrance to the barrel. how much of a work up is it to remove the barrel?

Very easy; remove the upper and lower plastic shrouds from the steering column, remove the passive coil from the lock, turn the key to position 1 and depress the release plunger from underneath the lock. The hole for the release plunger is about 2mm, so use something less than that to release the barrel.

Key not turning
Thanks for the advice Robbie.
My key started refused to turn all of a sudden. Never had an issue before, (a million other issues but not that one ), but was finished work one day, went to leave, and the key refused to turn. Was stuck in their driveway for about ten minutes wiggling and giggling the key while on and off, tugging the steering wheel until it finally freed itself. Happened a few more times until I read your posts about it.
Went at it this morning. Getting the lower shroud off was a particular pain in the ***** but managed to free it enough to allow me enough access to get the barrel out. Tried WD-40 which made no difference so blew it through with some compressed air and then tried a copper grease spray (also made by WD-40), and bingo, it started to give. So got it to a point where I was happy that it wouldn't stick on me. Refitted everything and gave it a good test this evening and it's back to what it was.
So look just a quick thanks for the posts, and all of the other posts that have helped me solve the weekly Landy issues that crop up at the worst possible times.
Changed the prop shaft bearing a few weeks back, (something I never thought I'd do. )
Someone had a great line on their profile that made me laugh because of how true it is ....
