England 2005 Discovery 3 TDV6 S Manual Adriatic BlueDiscovery 3

Hi, I am new to both the forum and ownership of a D3. Nevertheless, I have been reading with great interest the various topics and threads on this very helpful forum and I have just purchased and put in the TSL oil, having had a very recent service and oil change. Therefore, I have no previous statistics to enable me to comment on improvements in performance, mpg etc. but I was convinced of the overall longterm benefits of this product and pleased to give it ago straight away. Now I am going to try and find a Tesco's that hasn't been depleted of all its stocks of 2 stroke oil and give this a go!! Thanks. Fledge.

TSL Independent Test Results

Firstly I'd like to state that I have no affilation with Hess or TSL. I have conducted a test using 3 different works vans to validate or discredit the use of TSL oil fortifier. I've run the test over 10 complete tank fills in all three vans without the driver knowing I've added the TSL. The TSL was added shortly after each van had been serviced to ensure consistancy. The average results are as follows

10 reg VW Caddy DSG-normal 58l tank returned 540 after TSL 609=11%
07 reg Merc Vito 109-normal 70l tank returned 460 after TSL 503=9%
57 reg Nissan Primastar 76l tank returned 440 after TSL 484=9%

The driver of the Vito van did make a comment that it turned over a lot quicker after the service and seemed to run smoother. The driver of the Nissan didn't notice any difference on how it drove and I drive the Caddy so I may suffer from the placebo effect Laughing

I have nothing to gain from doing this test appart from ensuring I have not waisted £120 on some bogus product. I will be ordering another dose for the vans as the figures above show it pays for itself.

What is 'NATO approved' supposed to mean on that TSL stuff, just out of interest? (In your sig block).

I mean, NATO is a Treaty, not a state or manufacturer of cars or oils. 'It' doesn't go around endorsing products and has enough trouble doing it's day job without launching itself into advertising. It does endorse faffing about in a mire of indecision, but for anything short of war, or chapters 5-7 peace keeping operations to be considered 'NATO approved' sounds like a crock of the usual.

The UK's armed forces are part of NATO, obviously, so the Defence Logistics Organisation could approve something like this. But not NATO, surely?

By default I've spent a good few years kicking around NATO, albeit one step removed, and have never come across the stuff. However, I'm happy to be corrected. It's a slow night at work (with NATO...)

Just my 2 cents.

NATO Approved means that the product, whichever it refers to, has been given a supply or stock number
for ordering in by the relevant departments.
This also means that the product(s) have undergone several testing procedures which
are to be passed if the product(s) are to be deemed suitable for use.

In TSL's case you would not have been in contact with it as the numbers for TSL
have been designated to the Dutch Royal Navy, which use TSL Oil and Grease products
at their base in Den Helder.

Hope that clears that up Thumbs Up

57 reg Nissan Primastar 76l tank returned 440 after TSL 484=9%

Combined MPG figures:
40.9 MPG - VW Caddy
31.7 MPG - Mercedes Vito
33.6 MPG - Nissan Primastar

Extra mileage per tank:
69 Miles - VW Caddy
43 Miles - Mercedes Vito
44 Miles - Nissan Primastar

Savings per 1 tank of fuel:
£11.12 - VW Caddy
£8.94 - Mercedes Vito
£8.63 - Nissan Primastar

Diesel price @ £ 1.45 a Litre

This test was conducted over 10 fuel ups
which brings the total savings with TSL during this test to:

£111.20 - VW Caddy
£89.40 - Mercedes Vito
£86.30 - Nissan Primastar

Total for the 3 vans = £ 286.90

If each van fills up only once per week, then during these 10 weeks a saving was
made by the company of £ 286.90 or £ 28.69 per week.

Per year this would be a saving of £ 1491.88 (52 weeks)
Minus 3 x TSL Bottles (@ £ 29.95 each) the net profit would be:

£ 1491.88 - £ 89.85 = £ 1402.03

So, what it means is, "approved by the Royal Dutch Navy." I think they're stretching it a bit to say it's NATO approved just because Holland's single, lightly armoured rowing boat happens to be considered part of NATO. But that's marketing for you, I suppose.

Anyway, thanks for clearing it up.

No Pagoda, it is approved by NATO, and The Netherlands is as much a part of it
as the United Kingdom.

And The Netherlands is also a founding member of NATO.

Rowing boat you say?
Here's some pictures of the current fleet...

Well, we'll agree to differ as to what being endorsed or approved by NATO means. I'm sure the North Atlantic Council haven't agreed to approve it.

Anyway, not trying to start a row (as in cow, not row as in Dutch Navy Laughing ): If one excludes the US, the UK and France between them comprise just under 80% of NATO's deployable forces. One does have to wonder just what the other countries, like the Dutch and ze Germans actually do with their forces. That said, I worked with the Dutch Marines in the Balkans in the 90's and they were superb.

Again, it is NATO approved and the products carry NSN numbers.

Which means:

Quote:
A NATO Stock Number, or National Stock Number (NSN) as it is known in the US, is a 13-digit numeric code, identifying all the 'standardized material items of supply' as they have been recognized and approved by all NATO countries including United States Department of Defense. Pursuant to the NATO Standardization Agreements, the NSN has come to be used in all treaty countries, where it is also known as a NATO Stock Number. An item having an NSN is said to be "stock-listed".

The Dutch were deployed on Afghanistan for 4 years with 2.000 soldiers.
They also were involved in Kosovo, Bosnia and Iraq.

And to be totally honest with you, as a Dutchman, I am starting to feel offended by your comments.

FWIW I think if you pay a monthly fee to Martin to sell a product on the forum you are entitled to actively promote it and defend it. Same goes in the opposite direction, if you have a valid question it should be met with a valid answer Thumbs Up just my two penn'th
