Hopefully this time tomorrow I will be able to tell you all if it's a yayyyyyyy or a Ffs
Dabs on wheels has arranged for a new "tested" unit to be delivered straight from the
Manufacturer to me
Just hope it comes to my home address and not the office as I'm on day
Off tomorrow, waiting for our new cooker and then fitting it,
Yey busmans holiday
So fingers and toes crossed as I hope this is the last time I need to pull my dash to bits for a while......

Right then...
got the 3rd unit today and ten mins later I have integrated DAB
will post some install pics if requested but tbh its just a case of
let car sleep
H trim off
sat nav screen out (not a nescessity but makes it a lot easier to stuf wires back in)
hifi unit out
pull relevant plugs and swap etc, cant really go wrong..
reassemble...
smile
hardest part was antenna but I did that a couple of weeks ago
so a big thanks to Colin and Co at Dab on wheels, 100/100 for customer service, we got there in the end
and worth the wait

Good News
I'd be really interested to see how you fitted the antenna and routed the cable if you have photos
Thanks

Good news!
Always appreciate photos as many on hear will have never taken the trim off, let alone played with the connections behind the radio. For some this may even prompt their first torx screwdriver buy!
Very interested in the antenna routing, signal strength and the radio display when it is in action.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

I am also looking forward to some photos and an update on the performance over the next few weeks..
One question, is the DAB feed through the aux Feed of the radio or is it via FM signal.

pictures!!
Hi there
you dont use the aux feed at all
it plugs into the OE headunit and the OE plug goes into the new harness that then splits to the dab unit and antennas.
Torx screwdriver a must
so here is the kit out of the box
white box to the right contains the antenna, which sticks to a glass surface ideally a windscreen, BUT
because we have heated windscreens you cant
soooo
because It wont reach the rear side glass (and these have antennas in too so thats a no no
I opted to mount mine on my sunroof as I never use it anyway.
sat in passenger seat looking up ...
undo center lights and the clip for the sunvisor to allow the headlining to move, and feed the antenna wire through and across to the side pillar (torx screw behind airbag badge)
secure wires BEHIND the air bag so's not to restrict it, and feed wire down by door rubber and behind glovebox
(drop it for good access and to secure wire) then up to sat nav screen area
(oh yeah you should have the H trim off already)

this pic is where i 'stuffed it' sorry I didnt get any pics with head unit out but honestly you can not get it wrong, just make sure your car is sleeping before pulling plugs, but tbh I pressed the on button by mistake and was greeted with some red eyes from the most cable, was expecting errors when I reasembled but nowt of the sort.
well I got this pic... of it half out lol
cloth is to prevent scratching
signal is average, but the the antenna has a copper strip which has to sit on a metal bodywork part. eg edge of window so not sure how 'earthed' the sunroof frame is, but will run a temp' line to it to se if it betters it.
Got a good few stations straight away, lots of bbc, absolute etc.
you use the mode button on the steering wheel to turn dab on or off, the radion needs to be tuned into a set frequency and saved to (in my case pre set 9)
all info comes up on the OE headunit
you hold mode to turn dab on or off, when off OE controls are back to normal..
think that covers it lol
any questions, feel free to ask

Just fitted a DVB-t tv tuner with DAB radio works brilliant with twin glass mounted ariels, tv picture as good at 70mph as when stationary, fed through GVIF.It can when others can't,
It will when others won't,
It goes where others don't.

Very easy, at the moment one ariel is behind the passenger sun blind, cable tucked under roof lining and down "A" pillar. Second one one is rear offside window, I had to extend the cable for this one, I took off the "B" pillar inner trims and pushed a stiff wire under the roof lining to the other side taped the ariel cable to it and pulled through the roof linning. The ariels are the plastic strip type with their own amplifier. I intend trying connecting the cables to the in built rear ariels when the cold conductive wire glue arrives. But the plastic ones at the moment give a perfect picture on all channels certainly in my area.It can when others can't,

Have you got any photos of your TV aerials? Would be interested to see them Where did you get them from? I have a DAB-T unit fitted but the recepetion is poor, probably due to the current aerial. On the move its a no go competley
RCDtripper -
How does it tune the stations in on the head unit, just as normal? Does it also show the channel name on the display?
Thanks

Quick update regarding signal.
Been driving about today and what I thought was a rubbish location for the antenna, turns out to be pretty good
Didn't have any signal loss in town ( leamington/ Stratford upon avon and Warwick) or the surrounding countryside.
Have got 48 stations so far including my absolute 80's/90's
I was going to upgrade the antenna by utilising a sharkfin somehow
But I don't think I'm going to bother now
Well chuffed with the whole set up
Dead easy to use too
Do it, you won't regret it

My unit has a twin tuner with two amplified ariels, I have repositioned the passenger side ariel to the rear n/s quarter light with out any detriment to the signal, I can even get a 100% good picture in my garage that is surrounded with high trees:D
I haven't got a photo at the moment, but they are plastic stick on and look like a double Audi badge, there are plenty on the bay of E.
I have also connected the gvif unit to the CAN bus system to change to and from the SATNAV.It can when others can't,

I know that instructions say not to fit the glass mounted aerial to a heated screen. But, I can't see why it would be an issue with the D3 screen provided that it was fitted on the far edges. There's a big enough section of the screen around the edge which doesn't have the heater elements in it.
What do you think?

Why bother fitting it on the screen heated or not?- it's just as easy to fit it in the correct place(rear quarter widow) where it is out of site, ok you may need to extend the cable but that is easy and the job is done properly. It can when others can't,
