Hi willstatt
fully synthetic 2sO does not burn ashfree and as such is not suitable for vehicles with DPF. And this is aside from the fact that it is substantially more expensive than normal mineral or semi-synthetic 2sO conforming to JASO-FC.
Hi Hgbosch
In my days of 2 stroke motorbike racing, the fully synthetic (more expensive) two stroke oils always burned much cleaner than the mineral ones. In fact when the engines were stripped, which they were regularly, the fully synth left the engine practically deposit free. Surely this clean burning/non deposit leaving, would be equally beneficial with our diesels? Or am I confusing what you mean by burning ash-free?
Also, what's this TSL that people have talked about that they put in their engine oil?
The great thing about the 2 stroke oil in the diesel, is that it gets to bits that the engine oil doesn't, like in the fuel pump etc. and in unit injectors too.

As a born and paid sceptic my evaluation to date:
484 miles on 2 stroke and feel, subjectively, a little smoother.
MPG before 2 stroke recorded over 5527 miles:

MPG after 2 stroke added, recorded over 484 miles:

So 1.24 MPG more than my running average and 0.57 MPG more than my last fill which was, in itself, one of my best results as it involved some holiday driving. The tank of 2 stroke was my normal day to day routine so the results look reasonable so far.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948

TSL is an engine oil fortifier and provides additional benefits to your engine
as detailed and discussed in the Group Buy for it. You can read more about that
by clicking the link in my signature.
TSL is also low-ash and will therefore not be an issue for cars with DPF.
You don't have to use an ash free engine oil with a DPF,
just low-ash oils are recommended.

hi
been reading about the addition of the 2 stroke oil to diesel for some time now
decided to take a chance and try it for myself
just bought a 1ltr bottle 2t motor oil from shell price 9.95 squids
it reads JASO FC,API TC,ISO-L-EGB on the back
went on the shell oil site and it says this is a mineral oil
seems all the boxes are ticked [for me anyway]
just filled the tank with shell diesel and added 400ml mid fill to get a good mixing
will report back after a few days of good runs to see how it does
hopefully will get the same improvements as shown on the first page of this topic

Has anyone had their tank dipped by HMRC since using this stuff?
I bought some 2 stroke today for the chainsaw and noticed it made a nice red mixture. Is the castrol activo also red?

Yes it is red but I have not taken a sample to see what colour the diesel is at this low concentration.
For a tax-dip the colour is just the first indicator and they check for other colourless indicators that is added to red diesel.
Still, it is a question that comes up a lot and yet does not have a completely comprehensive answer.Land Rover - Turning Drivers into Mechanics Since 1948
For any members close to each other using this stuff a lot have you thought about getting a 210litre drum between you all as it would reduce costs a fair old amount i reckon!FFRR Owner, very nearly became a D3 owner

It takes a couple of tank fulls before you really notice the difference but notice the difference you will , just remember to use mineral type of 2 stroke oil at 5ml per litre.Landrover Discovery 3 TDV6 S 7 seat Automatic
