I've got a new D4 to try for the day on the 21/4/12! |
|
Currently thoroughly enjoying my FL2 TD4 XS manual, but my dealer's kindly lending me a new D4 to try for the day this Saturday
So, how do think I'll find it? Will the fuel economy frighten me to death? Will I be wanting to get back in the Freeloader on Sunday morning? Will they have to use force to prise the D4 out of my sweaty hands?
What do you reckon?
20/9/16 Update: Removed my recommendation of supplying dealer

you will fall in love, just like I did we'd only had our 2010 freelander2 for 3 months when me and Swmbo drove a Disco3 and were smitten, we actually get better mpg from the auto disco3 than we did from the manual fl2!! Now - 2008 Freelander 2 HSE
2008 Disco3 HSE Zermatt Silver - what a machine!
2007 Disco3 GS Black with no Brakes!!!
2010 Freelander2 TD4e Gs - 1st Landrover

Thanks for the feedback people This sounds like a very expensive way to spend a Saturday then
Oh yes, I particularly like this piece of advice: "If I'd known I was going to be so thirsty this morning I'd have drunk more beer last night." I can't see where that could possibly go wrong!

I've got it! It's parked outside now
It's very, very different to the Freelander 2 Where do I start? I guess with another drive and I'll come back and do a proper comparison later....

Thanks for sound advice their people
Well you might have guessed, from the lack of posts yesterday, that we spent a lot of time playing with the D4 yesterday
I like my Freelander a lot and each time I have to use a loan car, or someone else's car, I look forward to getting back in my own. This time? Well, neither my Mrs, our daughter or I wanted to hand the D4 back
Wow, what a car!
The engine and gearbox were the first think to win approval; normally, I don't like automatics, but this one is a completely different animal and I am a complete convert to this 8 speed automatic and the engine was fabulous.
The cabin had so much additional space and there was even more glass area and seemed so much higher. It felt like moving from an ordinary car up into the Freelander, for a second time, if that makes sense.
It felt very odd getting back into the Freelander, a bit like stepping back into my old MINI again! Okay, I'm getting used to it once more, but the D4 has really moved the goalposts for me.
Even the fuel economy wasn't that different: F2 around 30-33mpg, the D4 around 28mpg.
If it had been an option to change it there and then, I probably would have done However, it'll have to wait to see what I can afford when my next change is due.....
