I do unsterstand where you are comming from and yes Landnrover sold the car stating that it worked with the iPod, but since all the software was written against the specification stated at the time by Apple. The new iOs update has had changes to the way it communicates, so Apple have broken the way it works and caused you and many others (Landrover Volvo included) so should carry the blame.

In a way it's just like Sat Nav. When my car was new it ghad the latest maps in it. Now they are out of date. The new cars come with the latest maps, but I will have to pay to get the updates.

Personally I wish no manufacture would make any appliance that only communicated with Apple devices and that the EU would do something so that the interface was open for all mp3 players/phone to use.

Yes I really do hate Apple and all thier devices Evil or Very Mad And yes I am a Software Consultant/Engineer so sort of know what I am ranting on about Smile

I think as an IT consultant you will find Apple products are WAY more reliable than Land Rover and hence where the problem lies Wink

FYI

I have an iPhone 4 on iOS 5 on a MY2012 and don't seem to have the problem reported. I have connected with bluetooth first, then connect the phone to the iPod port and the audio playes with the hard connection with the bluetooth phone connection still OK.
