Ok, installation today, so questions
I assume that the "ACC" is where I want to wire up a switched live - right? Seems that having a switched live is better than permanent - otherwise the kids will leave it on all the time.
The blue "door" wire - does that turn on the light? To properly replace the rear light unit, in theory we want it to turn on the light when the door is open. Did you work out which wire that is in the connector?
The diagram in the "manual" shows an FM antenna input and a TV antenna input - any ideas? I'm guessing FM antenna for transmission of the sound via an FM channel, but I can't figure the TV antenna input. Perhaps it's actually a composite in? Or is there really a built in demodulator?
I've taken out the trim on the passenger's side pillar because I'm going to be connecting the video inputs and outputs to my GVIF unit, and I've fed six phono cables under the roof trim (using a coat-hanger rather than taking the whole trim off), now measuring up the backing plate to use your suggested mounting...
This is fun, thanks

Measurements ummmmmmm
Sorry I didn't write any down, it was purely to get the plate central and square
I think the green long lines represent the cromed edge of the opening after
Taking out the oe light unit.
But if you do drill the plate wrong it won't matter as you won't see it one the DVD unit is screwed to it.
Yes the blue wire is for the done lights but can't remember what the colour is on the oe loom
But connect yet black earth and poke it in the oe plug and try the lights
Fm modulator I just secured away on the roof lining and it works well
But I don't use it as listening to simpsOns etc just sit fair when ya driving
Unlessssss I get a gvif unit and get my info screen to display the picture too
Obviously when I'm stationary........
One perm and one switched live like you say do it can't be left on when you exit the car
But get them the right way round so's to keep the memory of where the DVD was when it was
Turned off
And
Post some piccies please

Of course I'll post pics
Right now, I've drilled the mounting plate, but I can't seem to get a rawl plug that will stay in the hole when a screw is turned. 8mm seems too loose, 9mm won't fit! Maybe your holes were tighter? Or you used better plugs! I'll have to work something out. I was thinking of maybe just using a cable-tie through the holes, pulled very tight (after all it'll be hidden as you say)...

Gotta be decent plugs which I tapped lightly with a hammer to seat correctly they will be loose until
You put a nice fat screw in it
Try one wind of PVC tape around a plug to tighten it
GoOd luck and excuse my dodgy spelling and punctuation and letter
Sizes, I'm trying to do this on an iPhone lol can't beat a propper keyboard and screen

Did same job with same unit last year really handy on long trips for the kids . due to the contours of the roof lining some small coloured draft excluder is handy to fill the gaps ,the self adhesive narrow stuff you put on door jams .insteAd of using the plug method i bent some light gauge stips of metal int two sled runner shapes and self tapped to the roof cross member you can see when the light is removed and then self tapped the dvd plate to the " runners " but if the plug idea works that would seem easier As fixing my brackets was a pain MY05 SE D3 Manual my first LR what a car
MY10 HSE D4 auto
MY14 XXV more buttons than the spaceshuttle

I tried the plug idea before drilling, and it so far nowt has fell from behind me so can vouch for its DVD player holding capabilities lol, otherwise it would of been drill n tap too

I'm going to have a go at this but have one (probably very dumb) question first.
The original post said:
Switched live was soldered to back of cigarette lighter, perm. live to back of Aux socket, which is not live but will be soon when I do 'the link' in the fuse box on the passenger side.
I understand the switched live part so that there is not always power going to the DVD player when you've left the car and I understand that you need a permenant live for the DVD player's memory.
However, what is the aux socket that you are soldering the wire to? I'm not aware of an aux socket in the centre console? And is this connected to the main battery or an auxiliary battery?
Edit - I don't have a cigarette lighter, just two 12v sockets. Should I be connecting one of he wires to the back of each and am I able to convert one to permenant live whilst the other remains as switched?
Thanks for any clarification.
Dave

Bear with me on this one, because I'm a bit dense when it comes to electrics. If I'm not bothered about the DVD memory function, can I just wire up the DVD using the wires that are already in place for the roof lights? I appreciate that the DVD may then go off when the key isn't in the ignition, but i'm not bothered about that. Am i missing something?

No you can't mate coz the DVD will turn off as the interior lights go off, and the wire isn't sufficient to run the unit without the risk of melty wires
Run yet wires down to the rear aux power socket then yellow and red on the unit will have to be joined together for it to work but will not work without key in the ignition or unless you have done the fuse box link to keep the socket live all the time. Which if you have will then run the risk of running the battery down if you leave the unit on by mistake.
