fitting second battery in rear of D4

Being as the second battery box is now taken up by extra electrical goodies ....i have put my second battery in the rear ( passenger side ) back panel

There is also rubber gromets just below the battery( were the rear air con pipes would have been ) ...should make it easy for the anderson connector for my trailer .

It cant lift up as this bracket is holding it there

And i have also made this bracket to keep it in place ...although too be honest it proberly dosent need it

Wiggs,

In the first photo the part of the metal bracket that holds the battery down looks awfully close to the +ve terminal, I hope it cant slide around at all .........

Have you put a vent in for it. Normally you would use a battery box with it as well, but not sure it would fit.

Looks good though.

Nice job wiggs. How close is it to the outer rear quater panal, does it reston it or something else ?

How are you planning to charge it ? could you use the gray trailer socket wireing on a split charge system ?

Gell and sealed .. So no worries there

Pete ...it rests on the sound deadening material ... I'm going to put an additional strip of foam there too

Was planning on using my traxide kit to charge it

Be interested to see the rest of the install. I am working with a customer to build 2 outside broadcast units using D4's. The first one has been stripped out at the rear and racks installed, plus a 5KVa generator. We were looking for a second battery position and charging. It doesn't have rear air con, so a roof mounted unit is being added instead to cool equipment.

It is going to be a awesome OB car though.

Great work Wiggs!! I've eyed off that spot a few times my self.

What is the procedure in getting the inside panel off? I've looked at it a few times and thought it looks very breakable Question

Hi Wiggs, Nice idea and a nice job.

What size cable are you going to use to connect to the front?

Wiggs, If I understand correctly the battery is fitted just where the towbar holder fits. Presumably, there is not enough room for both in there?

At present that area is pretty full with bits and bobs but that looks very good. However, looks like you need to be careful not to tuck other bits on top of the battery (the towbar for instance) and cause a short!
