Hi all, cleaned the MAP this morning. Really easy job, 20 mins max from start to finish. Was covered in crud and gunk! Electrical contact cleaner and kitchen roll restored it perfectly well. Drove the car straight after and felt an immediate difference. Wouldn’t say it was suddenly quicker off the pedal, but the gear change from the auto was definitely smoother and the drive felt “tighter”....not sure how else to describe it. Not sure what else that sensor affects but the car definitely felt better. My EGR is not blanked off, so I guess periodic cleaning will be needed!!

MAP causing trottle reaction?
Hello,
situation:
-A few weeks ago i had an "Engine System Fault" (with no power loss or malfunctions whilst driving)
-Cleaned out the butterfly housing
-Cleaned out MAP sensor with brake cleaner and some indirect low air pressure above the sensor, not
direct in sensor
-Fault disappeard
-since a few days now:
-Once in a while pushing the TROTTLE does not respond to the engine in 1ste/2nd gear whilst
accelerating from stop position...
-after some while problem is gone
it's NOT the feeling as if the turbo does not perform, rather like the trottle command is not beeing
confirmed and no extra fuel is injected...
-Rpm's stay very low and no power is generated
-had this with cold + warm engine
ENGINE = MY 2007 TDV6 D3 - 2,7L
Could this be a malfunctioning MAP sensor or maybe still gunk inside the sensor causing this?
Hope to hear some reaction, PM welcome!

MAP sensor clean / replace
just to add to this chain.....
I recently had the map sensor replaced by James French (who are AWSOME btw). This is because apparently inserting a Q-tip is bad....who knew !!
in replacing the sensor I have discovered something potentially interesting. The 'gunk' in the inlet manifold and blocking the sensor may actually be contributed to by the failing of the sensor itself. From what I can see, learned, discussed, over time the effectiveness of the sensor diminishes (my D3 is 10 years old) and, as a result, the fuel mix ratio goes up, further exacerbating the problem through the unburned fuel that coats the inside of the inlet manifold through the exhaust recycling system. Having replaced the sensor I have a MUCH smoother engine with much more torque at lower revs and a much better improved fuel economy, currently showing 32MPG vs 25-6 MPG before. Im going to put half of that down to the desire to see how high I can get it but even so, its a lot better.
food for thought.

I've replaced the MAP sensor with a new one to be shure...
Seems the new editions have indeed a bigger whole.
After a few weeks now, SAME PROBLEM! = SOMETIMES no power with pedal on the floor, no revs are coming up, no smoke ... as if the pedal does not give signal to fuel pump...
Ideas please?

I doubt that cleaning the sensor will have caused any physical damage to those bits so I guess you have an electrical issue, or have damaged the sensor somehow.

"Assume you didn't stick anything into the small hole on the sensor?"
Yes I cleaned the hole in the center of sensor with a cotton bud and claened it very well right down to the silver metal contact....

That's the issue i think, if you stick anything in the hole it breaks it
When I cleaned mine, I wasnt as delicate as I should have been and it caused all the errors you have had. But be sure is making a good connection, as from memory you get the same errors when its disconnected2010 Disco 4 HSE
