Good feedback peeps!! Hopefully this will help with the plunging mpg syndrome, naive to think it's totally fixed but we live in hope! Beno, my primitive & tongue in cheek "how to" in the first post of this thread. It's easy, if I can do it anyone can.

Just cleaned mine. Got 39k on the clock.

Taken it for a short run no apparent differences but will see if there's an improvement in mpg long term.

Removed mine this morning... totally gummed up with the hole completely blocked. After cleaning, it may be the placebo effect but:
1. I'm sure there's more response from the the throttle; flooring it did seem to give a slightly better and more responsive acceleration
2. The fuel economy has increased by 0.1mpg over a drive of about six miles, not much I know but unheard of in my car
3. I've never noticed a turbo whistle, but now when accelerating there's a just noticeable whine that I' sure I've never hear before
Can it be true... are any of these attributable to the MAP sensor?
If the hole is completely gummed up then assuming that the sensor works on pressure whats to say that it's not oiled up internally so is still not working properly?I cant see how it comes aprt any more.
Bear in mind that the speed limit in Guernsey is 35mph, so is this what's happening in other parts of the engine? As far as I know the EGRs aren't blanked.

When I removed mine the end was covered over but when I cleaned the muck off I carefully used a pin and cleared the hole and there wasn't that much muck up there. I didn't go all the way up the hole because I could have damaged the sensor. The muck seemed to just cover hole a when I removed the muck from around the hole I must have pushed a bit up the hole. I don't think the muck would completely fill up the hole. But you never know

I cleaned the hole out in mine with a squirt of WD40 directed at it, I wouldn't advise sticking anything down the hole to dig the gunk out, there's a diaphragm inside with some delicate electronics behind it.
The gunky stuff is only oily soot anyway so it shouldn't take too much to flush it out.Clive

Mine was all gunked up ;( Had a look at it after changing a split intercooler radiator Don't know if it made any difference as the new intercooler radiator would mask any changes

I know it been said before, but look at all the gunk on all these sensors, just shows you what gunk is going into the engines and then land rover wonder why, (well I bet they don't) all these land rovers are failing in one way or another. EGR's may look after the environment but bu**er up your engine!!!

Blanked my EGR's last Saturday and cleaned the sensor, it was gunked up. Driven 200 miles since then, 170 on the motorway, MPG increased by 2-3 MPG. Average over the 200 miles was 33.4MPG

Checked mine today, late 2008(can't blank EGR's yet), only 26000 miles, long distance mostly, running best Diesel I can buy. Fairly clean

Great stuff, keep em coming peeps! Doesn't look like there's any link between blanking EGRs.

I don't want to start a debate on this subject but is anyone, who has a clean or near clean sensor using 2 stroke oil in their Diesel?
The 2 stroke is meant to act as a cleaning/de-coke agent.
Just curious
