Australia 2012 Discovery 4 3.0 SDV6 SE Auto Fuji WhiteDiscovery 4

Off road course with D11 taught me to carry a snatch strap as opposed to a static strap, hense my confusion.
My only experience of using a snatch strap has been pulling D11 out of sand and a car out of mud so this did not create a problem or load up the strap.
Point taken with released load being dangerousBut I would think the danger is to anything in the way of the released strap or recovery point not twisting the chassis.
It can't replace a winch.
Use with care and carry an alterate strap or chain.

Australia

Usually, the strap/shackle/recovery eye heads towards either of the vehicles.

I thinkt that on Aussie beaches, a snatch strap is one of the 'must haves'; but then again, i drive a Landrover so I wouldn't know what it's like to be stuck! Wink Very Happy

Snatch straps are the best form of primary recovery. When used correctly they should be fitted with an "air brake" something like a towel and preferably near both ends. Snatch straps do break but when fitted with "air brakes" do not cause any damage. My recommenation is join an acredited 4wd club or do a basic offroad course before attempting to use a snatch strap in anger.
Always use a good quality strap and replace if it shows any sign of fraying.
You could start a major new thread on the do's and don't's of snatching.
Sorry the trainer in me coming out.
