Just sit back and enjoy it safe in the knowledge that the stuff the Disco3 does easily is blood, sweat & tears to pretty much everything else 8)
and don't forget your camera!!
if in doubt, just put it in low box, mud & ruts, HDC on, suspension up and take your feet off all the pedals, it'll quite happily pootle round just about anywhere with steering input only...

Yes, I like it very much. Did a quick internet search, but can't find this track on any CD. Also found some mp3 download links, but those were all dead. Do you know how to get it?

If you are going any distance from civilisation, it is also a good idea to have a second vehicle with you, as well as a recovery rope or strap (not a kinetic one though) and a pair of shackles
Do you mean a snatch strap?
I would recommend a snatch strap over a static for recovery as they store the energy of the tow and rhen release. Used properly they will haul vehicle out when an ordinary strap wouls snap.“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Yer, I do mean a snatch strap... wouldn't ever use it on a vehicle with a D3's mass - And 'normal' tow straps / strops / ropes shouldn't be used to snatch a vehicle out either, if things are that bad, use a hand or electric winch or start digging

I would disagree but could be wrong, anyone have experience of use of snatch strap with a D3?“There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Well for one, the recovery eyes are not rated for kinetic recovery, if one side is more stuck than the other, there exists a real chance of distorting the chassis as well... I'm not normally adverse to things that are less than 100% safe but the forces involved and the potential for damage and / or death are too great for me to even contemplate trying it.... Straps / strops will break if used to snatch a vehicle out as they are not designed or rated for shock loading (same with the Disco3 recovery points) Yes, you can suspend a Disco3 from it's recovery point but putting in excess of 30 tonnes of load on it within a few hundred milliseconds just isn't going to be something i'd want to do...
Non Stick Nick has a good deal of experience (IIRC) with kinetic recovery ropes and I'm pretty sure he wouldn't use one on the Disco3 either..
I read recently that the latest method for snatch strap recovery is this:
Attach the strap between the two vehicles.
Have the driver of the stuck vehicle apply the foot brake as hard as possible, with the gearbox in neutral.
The recovery vehicle then moves off slowly until there is tension in the strap and the halts.
The driver of the stuck vehicle then lets off the brake.
If the stuck vehicle moves forward three feet, then continue with a normal snatch strap recovery.
If the stuck vehicle moves less than three feet or not at all, then use an alternate means of recovery as snatch strap recovery is likely to fail.Have a nice day!

Sounds a lot safer, although the '3 feet' bit is slightly misleading as this depends upon a lot of factors:-
the load applied
length of rope
how stuck the vehicle is
traction available to the recovering vehicle
Still, it's a lot better than the 'fly past as fast as you can' method, although I think that 'just one more go' would come into it before most people would apply thought to the situation

I understood the opposite that the snatch strap prevwnts the shock load that would apply if using a chain or a static strap. The snatch strap absorbs the energy of the shock before releasing it and pulling out the vehicle. “There are only three sports: bullfighting, motor racing, and mountaineering; all the rest are merely gamesâ€

Caver, the problem with snatch straps is that they can store over three times the vehicle mass that they're pulling.
If the stuck vehicle is 'stuck' and the recovery vehicle either takes off too fast or fails to appreciate that the stuck vehicle is too stuck for a snatch recovery and consequently keeps pulling, then somethings going to go.
That will be the weakest point. Then you end up with 12+tonnes of energy releasing itself.
I carry one for the beach, but will only use it for lightly bogged vehicles. And then only if they've got rated recovery points. Not rated, then the snatch strap doesn't come out!
I rate them up there with 9inch angle grinders in my list of dangerous bits of kit.Have a nice day!
