Hi Craig
I note that you have the 2012 D4 on order. How did you place that order without knowing pricing etc? I was told by my dealer that the "order book" for 2012 cars would not be opened until pricing and spec details were known.
I have just been told that if my order goes in again in July I will not get a car until November/December. So how are the September/October cars being ordered?
thanks
Robert

Exactly Robert, that is why it is nonsense.
The secret document says the first orders can be placed some time around end May/early June from memory but it all remains a secret until July - how on earth is that possible....
I would speak to other dealers....

That's exactly what worries me too. My dealer says he will place the order as soon as the order books are open for MJ 2012.
I have delayed my order to get into MJ2012, so naturally I want one of the first off the line. Well, when thinking about it, maybe not so smart from an issue perspective...
Anyway, I do not want to wait until December or even later. Anybody in the same dilemma?
I just wonder if this is because otherwise I might end up with one of the last MJ2011, and there is some kind of transition plan for buyers who have ordered today, in case their orders can not be finished in time before the MJ change? My dealer once mentioned something like these candidates get the new spec for the old price. I'm fine with the 2012 pricelist, can't be that severe. But I want me Disco in early October.

Drive Select rotary transmission selector
Further to my previous posts, according to another document extract that I have seen, to support the introduction of the new 8-speed automatic gearbox, all new models will feature the Drive Select rotary transmission shifter dial (as seen in the Jag XF), a new terrain response selector and steering wheel mounted Paddleshift.
I have a couple of photos of the centre console but cannot paste them into this text box!
regards

Hopefully, the spec sheet and console image for the MY2012 D4 will appear below:

Hope you enjoy the new layout.

Oh yes, I noticed this in the above mentioned LR Topix manual. I guess this is because otherwise you end up with two similar dials on the centre console, so the TRS selector dial had to go. Personally I always felt its a bit clunky anyway.

I will miss resting my arm on the gear lever (which I know is a bad thing to do) and I like the positive action of switching the gear lever into sport as and when needed by giving it a firm knock to the left but am sure it will grow on me.
I suspect the 255 horses will mean I will be looking to use sport a bit less anyway

I've been debating in my mind about the new layout for a few weeks ....I sort of want to like it, but ultimately think there is too much wasted space around the knob 21 year LR veteran > D2 GS 2003 > D3 S 2006 > D3 HSE 2009 > D4 HSE 2013 > D4 HSE 2015 > D5 HSE 2018 > DS HSE R-Dynamic P300e 2021

I agree - I rely on Sport Mode and manual shift down to first in order to overcome the hopeless turbo lag and make a quick getaway from junctions (if you do not shift down I believe the car tries to set off in second gear!!).
The D4 (MY2011) has none of these issues and I found it very quick off the mark, so perhaps the manual downshift will not be needed, especially with the new version and the 8sp box??

If it works the same way as the XF, you have to push the selector down and rotate into S mode so it makes you feel part of the team However, when you want to move it out of S, for example, to reverse back to the right turn you overshot (ahem), if you try to push it down to move it back to RND nothing happens. I can testify that it's a bit embarrassing if you slammed the anchors on and the guy in the BMW behind has a short temper 2010 MX-5 2.0 Sport Tech PRHT

Am I missing something on those figures Rob produced with the console picture or are the power figures the same on MY2012 as MY2011 ?

I believe that the 2011 car produced "only" 245bhp, so an increase of 10bhp for MY2012

I assume the KW figures in the header are correct, while somebody failed to update the figures in the table after c&p.
I suggest LR should QA their documents before leaking

That's because the current (2011MY) UK/Europe "TDV6" is a 155kW (211bhp) variant of the 3.0, whereas I believe the TDV6 elsewhere is a 2.7 (140kW/188bhp).
The SDV6 is a 180kW (242bhp) 3.0 the world over.06 D3 SE / 15 LR D90 XS SW / 88 LR 90 Td5 / 68 BMW 2000 ti
