don't forget you need the arms and hands of a very long limbed chimpanzee to get in there though - an absolute beeeyaaaatch of a job messing with that fuse box
Thanks for this thread - seems to be my solution as I installed the cooler box today and only then realized the sockets are not live. Oops.
Can anyone tell me if there is some trick when removing the relais? Is it just PULL or is ther some kind of latch or other catch? I'd hate to break the car...
Thanks for saving me from despair,
all the best from Switzerland,

yes I know, but don't understand why it should affect the alarm?
The alarm need a signal that will tell it that you switch off. that signal comes from that relay. now you bypass the relay, there is no signal to the alarm system. the alarm system, don't know that you switch off.
This is not applicable to UK models.
Having lft the drivers window down, locked the car, alarm armed then waited for car to go to sleep. I put my hand, arm in the window, nothing. I had to actually move my hand in front of the internal sensors and the alarm then sounded.
So. at least i can report that the alarm in a UK spec D3 does work even with relay removed.
Though i would like to know a little more, as to why the internal sensors are so pants, anyone?ATB

Has anybody done this mod but provided the power from the aux battery?
I'm guessing you may be able to put a feed into the relay socket direct from the aux battery, or can you fweed it in under the bonnet on the 50amp fuse somehow??

I too would be interested in wiring the sockets via the auxiliary battery.
If I take a feed from the Aux do I plug it into one of the slots where the relay in the above photo is removed?

Slightly off topic, but does anyone know if I can easily add the boot space power connector, just got a brand new D4 (second one) and this one does not have the adaptor fitted in the boot. I need it as we have dogs and use a temp monitoring device to send sms if temp in boot goes above a limit when we are away from the car. There is a plastic cover over where the adaptor should be , just wondering if the wiring would already be there in the loom or would I have to splice in to cables (in which case I will let the dealer do it !!) Any thoughts ???
Many thanks ...great forum
