As this thread is full of those in the know......
My garage is claiming the pump supplied by LR won’t fit, here is the old and the new for comparison.
Anyone fitted their own like this??
From what I can figure out the oil seal is rearward on the new one not on the front like the original??

Another one bites the dust
Mine went last Tuesday morning while pottering along in traffic at about 60mph on the M25. Lucky enough to sail into the only refuge area for miles and not block the M25 during rush hour!
Suspected it was this problem when I read the codes off combined with the sequence of lights and the symptoms.
Stripped it at the weekend (plenty of photos and videos taken) and sure enough it's exactly the same problem - tensioner mount has failed.

Bought my 2007 D3 TDV6 with 83k miles on the clock. Not having read any of the above, or the LR service guide, I just did regular annual services on it when due. It now has 107k miles on it and a mate has talked me into doing a few mods and a bit of greenlaning. So I joined GLASS and this forum for a bit of knowledge and advice..... and then I read this thread. And then I realised my engine was on borrowed time!
So three weeks ago I put the car into my local Indy garage and asked for everything on the full LR 90k and 105k services to be done, plus an oil pump with the upgraded casing. Then found a comfy chair and waited for the bill. I didn't ask for a quote because the owner is straight as a die and I knew they'd do me the best price they could.
The first call said they thought the engine might have to come out for the oil pump. I sent them a copy of Flack's guide. The next call said the starter, alternator and alternator bracket would have to come out and did I realise it was a lot of work. I did. They asked if I was on a timescale because they could keep the labour cost down if they only worked on it when it was quiet. I was not.
Then I got a call saying they'd talked to LR and wanted to get the oil pump from them to be sure it was the right one. I sent them the AdvancedFactors link on the forum and told them to get a FoMoCo one like that one. They chickened out and bought from LR to be safe. It still arrived with FoMoCo on it, just more expensive! Can't win em all.
Anyway long and the short is that nearly three weeks later I have my car back and its all working beautifully. Every single fluid including auto and transfer boxes (including new sump and integral filter) diffs and brakes is new. I also got a wheel realignment while it was there. Drives smooth as silk.
The total price? Well it included the oil pump from LR at £100 more than it needed to be, which was a bit unnecessary. But for the oil pump change, transfer box oil change, and diff oil changes they threw in all the labour for £250 by way of apology for the pump, which I think was a lot less than it should have been. All up it was £1625. A lot of money to spend on a 13 year old car with 107k mls on the clock and probably only worth about £6k. But then I love the old thing and want to keep it and enjoy it. It's also a lot less that it would cost to get a newer one, and probably a lot, lot less than my local LR Dealer/Specialist would have charged

You need to get rid of that mechanic - he has no idea.
It took my mechanic one day to replace the oil pump, both belts and additional work.
It was a good idea you got the work done but next time get someone who knows what they are doing.

This is becoming really frustrating for myself - I am trying to book in my Disco for the belts and oil pump to be changed and ALL the LR Specialists are confused when I’m asking for an oil pump to be changed, also then stating that to change the oil pump will double the labour costs. I stated mine is a 2007 ‘with the weak pump’ and they’re still seemed none the wiser. That’s 2-3 LR specialists, all with the same opinions...
I’m getting decent quotes for the belts/tensioners, but as soon as I mention an oil pump- I’m getting told it’s a half engine strip down to change it..
How is no one aware of this? When they should be?Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

Sadly you are clearly going to the wrong people.
Your profile says you are in "South Wales". Maybe if you were a little more specific someone could direct you to an LR Indy who knows what he is talking about.
We are lucky around here; I have 3 within 20 minutes all of whom are first class.

I’m located in Swansea, South Wales - I’ve tried both my local ones. I’ve even phoned Bourton on Water, Oxfordshire specialists and then they’re none the wiser. I’m waiting for one more Specialist in Wales, which I’m not holding my breath to.
It looks like I’ll have to travel up your way to get them done.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.
I can't comment on Bourton LR. I did a search here and there are no comments in favour of them or otherwise, which may be telling.
Others will tell you of decent Indys closer to home I am sure.

Its not a big job 3.5 max should be around the £650.00 mark for both belts and Oil pump change.

Just checked the bill and both belts and oil pump came to £745 fitted, but that's buying the pump from LR so not a long way out. The ZF Box service kit from LR, the oils, coolant and brake fluid were £648 fitted. The regular annual service was £190 and wheel alignment was £42
I mainly went to my local garage because I wasn't confident of doing it myself in less than a month of Sundays and I didn't take it to an LR specialist because I did that once... never again.

I’ve hopefully found a local’ish LR Specialist, who is the first garage to know about the oil pumps needing changing. They quoted £800 for the 3 belts/tensioners etc and oil pump along with an oil change and coolant.
I have confidence in them already just purely out of them being the only ‘LR specialist’ that was aware of oil pumps needing changing. All the others have completely passed off the issue.Defender 110 2.4 TDCi Utility Station Wagon.

I’d say that’s not an unreasonably high quote.
