As title would suggest the engine in my disco 3 gave up a few weeks ago and plan to take the body off and carry out and engine change and do a few other jobs whilst i'm at it.
As i'm borrowing a friends two post ramp i don't want to leave the body on his ramp for weeks on end so looking at options for being able to remove it from the ramp and wheel it about etc.
my thoughts are
build a metal frame that bolts to the original mounting bolt points on the body to allow it to be transferred from the two post ramp onto my trailer.
or the same but add wheels to the frame to allow it to be removed from the ramp and wheeled about
does anyone have any plans for something they have built previously so i can have it pretty much manufactured and ready to go to prevent having to build it from scratch

yeah but want to do a heap of other work as well mikey, so need the body off for a while
i work away a lot so not going to be a quick job unfortunately

The body off is relatively light, about 1300kg, the weight of a small hatchback. If you are using a baseless lift (no raised metal cover between the posts) then one option is to use four wheel dollies. Nylon wheels roll much easier than metal ones.
Or store the body on your trailer. Just be aware that it is very tail heavy, due to rear seats and tailgates.
I would not go to the trouble of trying to use the chassis mounts. The sills can easily take the weight. You will need to create enough clearance to swing the lift arms in and out.Chris
i was planning to store it on my trailer but would need to drive it approx 10 miles back to my house from where the body will be removed, not sure how id manage to drop it onto the trailer with ramp, as would need to chock it up a fair bit to keep the body up past the edges of the trailer if that makes sense.
thinking about welding up a set of feet that i could bolt back onto the body mounting holes to raise it up a bit and make it stable on the trailer.
was just curious if anyone had done something similar so i could get them made up ahead of time to save any delays once body is removed

Main securing point could be rear mountings between wheel arches, centres at 81cm.

Forward support under sill edges 146cm apart, somewhere below front door openings
Removing engine and gearbox (300kg) pushes COG from 152cm out to 179cm, distance from front hub centre. This point is a few mm rear of the door gap.Chris
