Mine is a 2005 model (actually it is one of the very first D3's) and I have 135000 km's on the odometer. So not yet reached the recommended mileages for a cam belt change, however it is 7 years old now. SO I think I will have it changed. In the same go I think (after reading this thread) it is probably a got idea to have the oil pump casing replaced as well. Just to prevent the belt tensioner to break off.....
If I understand correctly I would need part number LR013487...is that correct? What would be the cost for this part approximately?
its only 07 onwards engines that people are deciding on whether to replace the oil pump
pre 07 there is no supersession part, if you replaced it would be with a unit exactly the same as fitted to yours nowTLO has left the building.......

Weeeeeeellllllllll............
Went to pick the old girl up and there she was, gleaming cleaner than I've seen her for a long time
It now has....
New engine and belts
New steering pump
New steering rack
New rear arb bushes
New brake lines all round
New aircon pipes all round
New crossover pipe
New turbo actuator
New turbo hose
And a wash!
Went in expecting a hefty labour charge for parts fitting, considering I had about £2600RRP  of additional parts.
So they've Also welded nuts on that had broken off when changing the aircon pipes, repaired fixings for the undertray
Extra labour to remove winch and fixings
Aux battery
Plus labour to change anything else that wouldn't normally have needed changing when doing the engine.
Total price to me
£2992.98 including VAT.
Overall (and considering what I was originally looking at a bill for!) I'm very very happy!
Brake pipes won't fail for next 5 years or so, aircon pipes also shouldn't fail for another 5 years or so.
Steering rack is now crisp as it should be, wheels were also aligned in that price.
I've got a Disco that should last well for another 100,000 miles without too much hassle!
So, a big   to Landrover for doing the right thing with the free engine and a big  To The Large One who was my constant supplier of information on parts and replacement timings, sorry I couldn't get the parts through you this time, but I needed to get the car back & Shukers seemed to be on the ball and agreed to price match as well. Also big  to Dave Greenan at Shukers Landrover in Shrewsbury for not taking the pee with the labour charges.
Permagrin mode well and truly back ON again
So, if you DO get this specific failure, it is definitely worth talking to LR CS (well, I went directly to the exec office which may have helped as well). Bodsys Brake Bible

There absolutely no admittance of any liability, but given that there's a few even on this thread that have gone through the same foc process, it's clearly an issue that thankfully they are dealing with Bodsys Brake Bible

Fantastic news..........you will be very pleased indeed.
Im just wondering now if there was anything that you think clinched the support from LR CS on providing a replacement engine......
ie....full LR service history, LR extended warranty or the likes.....??

Nope, I think just clarity of what I wanted and why, including examples and confirmation that I was aware of the redesigns No screaming or shouting, just clarity and the impression that I wasn't going to give up (which I wouldn't have)
Service history is LR for 60k, then independent for the next 40k. No extended warranty at all.Bodsys Brake Bible

Good result, happy to hear she is back on the road. I gather that's rear aircon pipe you refer to, was it Oem pipes that were fitted? From your experience would you advice owners within the relevant vin range to change the bracket housing with the latest housing togeter with 7 year belt change service?A few mods... and keeping it all running...Faultmate MSV2

I had ALL the brake pipes and ALL the Aircon pipes changed for OEM (except for one of the brake pipes that the dealer said was on backorder. They replaced that one with copper pipe. The rear aircon one was weeping already.
Personally, My advice would be If you are going to keep the car for a while, then I would go to the extra expense (Labour as part is cheap) to have the newer style oil pump fitted at the same time. I wouldnt be able to take the stress of waiting for it to possibly (or not) break at some point in the future. But this is ONLY for MY07/08 vehicles within the vin range it seems.Bodsys Brake Bible

If your in the the year range then yes, it can be done with the front cam belt but its not a job for the faint hearted as you need to remove the front crankshaft belt pulley which is very tight and you need to lock the engine up fully with the flywheel locking pin.
