New Grabber AT Fuel Consumption |
|
Hi
I have had these fitted to my D3 HSE auto for about a month now and can confirm that they are a great tyre, better ride, no discernible road noise etc. BUT fuel consumption has worsened from 27 - 28 mpg to 23 -24 MPG. It could be a complete coincidence but nothing else has changed and my local garage (not main dealer) who has serviced the vehicle from new can find nothing amiss. I was running on Wrangler HPs before the change. Has anyone else had the same experience or should we keep looking away from the tyres for the source of the problem?
Thanks
Ant

Have had a couple of customers say they have lost a little fuel consumption with different tyres but that seems a bit high, on the other hand others notice no difference.

265/65x17 would be fine for you but don't forget the AT2 is now finished, the new General AT has replaced it.
Sounds like you need something more like the BFGoodrich KM2 in 245/70x17 for your off-road stuff.

Just to keep the feedback going on these tyres...
We got back last night after a 1,500 round trip to the Alps for a week's skiing. Most of the journey was on good quality motorways (so in France then and not the UK ). Tyres were pumped up to full load per the LR handbook. Weather going out was foggy all the way and freezing once we hit the mountains but no new snow. Coming back was torrential rain with heavy spray. Speeds were up to 130kmh on the motorways.
The car behaved impeccably throughout, which means the tyres did too. The rain and surface water were not a problem - the car was totally stable even fully loaded. Road noise was minimal / none existent. Handling on the mountain roads in low temperatures was confident.
I would add that mileage DOES seem to have suffered. Perhaps the 130kmh is partly to answer (I only do 70mph in the UK honest) but I doubt it. I reckon to have dropped about 1.5 to 2.0 mpg on the ATs versus the stock Wranglers. D3 - 2008.5MY HSE, Stornaway Grey, RSE etc - all the toys

No problem, love the KL71, great mud tyre with good road manners. Used them on my 06 Defender for just over 18,000 miles, not used them on a D3/4, I think they are a tad too big and there may be rubbing isues.
This thread is about the General AT, hence asking you to call me.

Hi there
I am seriously considering putting a set of AT's on our Disco, as we are off to Austria skiing in the car mid february.
Don't shout at me, but we currently have Hankooks on the front of the car, and Kumhos on the back. The Hankooks are actually marked up as M+S and have the snowflake mark on them, but the Kumhos dont.
Looking at the AT's, they seem to have a H speed rating, and our current tyres have the V speed rating. Will this be a problem?
If I fitted the AT's, I would probably want to run them all year, so would the H rating be a problem with my insurance?
