I thought I needed the link when my screen gave the dreaded message while trying to do the Nav-on-Move upgrade, but thankfully it worked out.
That did leave me with a question. Is this disc the firmware? If so, it must be loading the same software as the Faultmate, just using a different loading procedure?
In my case the Nav-on-Move software went in fine, but when I went to load the final Firmware, it failed at about 60% and the screen showed the bootloader mesage. I then tried again, with the same failure. After taking a break to clear my thoughts (and sinking feeling in my stomach) I thought to do the hard reset by pulling the battery. After that the software loaded and it appears that everything is working - including the Nav-on-Move.
I guess I just want to make sure I'm not missing anything or created a problem that has yet to manifest. 2006 LR3 V8 HSE

It's the screen software . If it goes currupt you can't communicate with the screen .
You then program it via the nav unit ( with the disk )
Faultmate will allow you to put any software on the screen were as your limited with the dealers tools G4 Gone ...but not forgotten
