I don't have the tool for the crank . But I can make something. With the starter out I see the hole in the flexplate behind the plastic cap . Does this hike have to be lined up with the center of the hole where the cap was . I gather so but just checking

Buy the kit and remove the plating on the tools (make them a tad oversize)

Took the covers off to check the belt and pump on my 06 and was shocked to see the belt had previously been changed with dabs of paint on the crank and cam pulleys just wherever it stopped!
Original old style pump and leaky oil seal
Must stop buying shiny toys....

I still put my own marks on there even if im using the correct locking pins, sometimes things dont quite line up right and a second reference point can come in handy.

Oil pump replacement
Gonna have a go at changing both belts (after the reconditioned gearbox and torque converter get put back in at great expense ) but I’ve read on other forums about changing the oil pump at the same time as earlier models (mine’s 2005) had weaker mounting points for the camshaft and were prone to breaking? Anyone know anything about that and whether it’s worth doing? I may change it over anyways seen as I’ll have everything out of the way for the belt changes, but keen to hear others opinions on the matter

Yes a 2005 has the oil pump with the weak casting and is well worth changing. Make sure you get the Fomoco one from Advanced factors and a genuine oil seal.

Cam belts
I am currently sorting a tappet noise on my Daughter Disc 3 2.7.
Advise to any one replacing the High Pressure fuel pump drive belt is to cut the old belt off, the reason is when undoing the tensioner the last few threads can be broken out with the belt tension, cut the belt and avoid the issue.
Now to get the bolt out of the cam pulley

Locking pins
Hello.
When you put the locking pins in through the oval hole on the cam pulleys, do they just sit in a hole in the outer casing or actually go through that to lock into the cams some how?

The pins go through the holes in the cam pulleys to each cylinder head.

Ok. So assuming the lock tool is in the flywheel and NOBODY has undone the main cam pulley centre bolts so it hasn't slipped round, the timing will be right when the pins are in, 3 bolts loosened off and rotated fully to the right whilst putting the belt on counter clockwise.
Just I have a steering wheel wobble at idle since having the belts done and I want it checked properly. So that will be by me, with you guys In today's world, if you contribute something, you don't contribute enough. If you contribute nothing, you receive everything.
