Another Jacking Incident

Had cause to lift the D3 using my 3 tonne trolley jack, all looking good but whilst working underneath sudden creaks & groan followed by a lurch and D3 is off its jack and all 4 wheels back on the ground !!!. Having just narrowly missed getting my head squashed I look for the jack to discover it embedded upward in to the D3 floorspace Evil or Very Mad . Closer inspection revealed it has punctured the plastic box on the underside n/s just forward of the rear wheel arch and penetrated to a depth of about 5 inches .......eventually managed to lower and retrieve the jack head with accompanying splintering plastic pieces and noise Embarassed . Inspection of the damage revealed foam rubber and wring behind which thankfully appears undamaged Rolling Eyes but i am now left with this:

Clearly cannot stay unrepaired as open to water etc......, what wiring does this belong to ?

Anyone had to replace this plastic box before for any reason and whats involved ???

That looks like the compressor housing for the air suspension to me, you'll be lucky if you haven't broken the mountings.

Is it the rear passenger side.

Thanks guys

The compressor appears to be still working as the air suspension seems all ok .......yup it is rear passenger side. When checking behind the foam rubber all I could see was wiring and several multi block connectors which did not look damaged so hopefully survived to live another day !

Guess it's a "help me Nick " call tomorrow. Whistle

Just to be clear, you did jack it up on this inviting box, rather than on the chassis rail and it then fell off? Jacked the D4 for the first time the other day, and having read all the horror stories on here, was very careful to make sure I used the right points - just want to know if there's something else to have nightmares about!

I sure did not Jack it up on the box Shocked , bit more savvy than that .......it was on the jacking point which I have done many times before so to have it roll off was a VERY big surprise !!!!!!!

I can imagine! I didn't use the trolley jack in the end because it only has a 'cup' without the locating pin that's on the LR jack - guess it's time to get one of those machined adapters that gives you the pin

Hi Simoniz just so I have this right... you had a trolley jack on the jacking point and it slipped and went through the floor or the jacking point gave way Question

I think we need some "Not a Jacking Point" stickers made up that we can slap on all those "soft" bits.

There is a symbol on the underside of the compressor saying it is not a jacking point.

...which has been missed all too many times before, particularly in tyre fitters if I remember the discussions on here!
