Simon, what you need is a pint for the shock and a metaly compressor cover and a jack adaptor.
They can be got handy enough A happy childhood ... is the worst possible preparation for life.

What make and model is your jack? Are their any signs of bending in the arm?

Jack adaptor is good! Used mine for the first time last week while sorting my EPB and you can't really go wrong with it!2014 D4 XS
2005 D3 SE - Gone
So we are all clear , the trolley Jack was at the correct LR jacking point but slippage of either Jack or vehicle or both sideways then had the supporting post of the Jack disappearing upward into what has been identified as the compressor housing on the n/s underside of the D3 floor.
Now then the Jack adaptor - who can supply one and how much ??.

Well it is a Clarke Jack so all sorted on that front.
