Land Rover roof bars

I am after any help finding roof bar bike carrier for a D3, I have LR roof bars which are quite wide and wondered if I would need a particular bike carrier to fit the wider LR bars, or do they fit all widths ?? Thumbs Up

I believe the Thule bike racks will fit, if you use the T bolts in the slots occupied by the rubber strips.

BB is right - the Thules with T bolts do fit well

wont it be a bit high for putting a bike on top of your disco, i was toying with the idea myself but decided on using my old hatchback halfords bike rack which suprisingly fits mint and only cost me £30

Do the straps for the hatchback one take the weigh of the rack and bikes? I have one of these at home and am fed up of taking bikes apart to pt in the back and getting the inside of the car dirty as well! Going to get an Altera Strada soon

cheers

If I had roof mounted bikes, I reckon they would be on for about 5 mins before I smashed them off - think about a tow bar and rack - must be a lot easier (and safer)

yeah the straps took the weight of two mountain bikes on my disco, and then on the way back we had a cheeky de tour down a 'green lane' first time ever! and they was jumping about on the back but held on really well!

Use both roof bike racks (Thule pro-ride on the LR bars) and have a Thule euroclassic tow ball one too.

Getting the bikes on and off the roof does need care (that glass roof is expensive) and will try and have two peeps doing it - one on the lower rear door and one passing it up and then fastening it in.

The roof we tend to use when towing the trailer and going off camping - the rear one gets used for days out with the bikes

Thanks for all the info, I do have a tow hitch mounted carrier which is fine but we want to take the bikes away with the tintent so the roof is the only other option.
